This image has the added median planter, but might not fit on our fair and narrow Zach Scott.

Cool! It seems that we are 4 runners (and counting) so far.

There was one request by PM to reverse the order and run the Cherrywood loop first - that'd be fine with me.

Henning
A lot of people seem to cut through our neighborhood at the ZS/Airport "entrance" over to the Manor "exit." This may explain some speeding ... they're looking for a quick short cut.

I'm okay with speed bumps, etc. Do I like them? No... but I'm willing to be slightly inconvenienced if it means our neighborhood becomes kind of a pain in the butt for other people to speed thru. People drive really fast down Mattie, too (between ZS & the pool). It's only one block, not sure what the big eff'in hurry is?? Lots of kids and dogs play out there.

      Betsy,

Has there ever been any discussion about speed bumps on Zach Scott? There are some pretty fast drivers, and as Brandon notes above, it is easy to "zone out' on a wide straight street. I'm particularly concerned about increased traffic once Berkman goes through to 51st.

I'm willing to drive that way and try those. My experiences with cushions and bumps is that folks speed between and brake hard, or if it is a commercial truck, drive between them and go full speed (and now in the middle of the road.)

I'm interested too if there is a noticeable sound associated with them since there is little space between homes and the street. At our old place, we could hear folks driving over them while inside.

I dislike the use of stop signs as speed control, but wonder if the traffic at Z. Scott and Mattie could justify one?

I was just talking to a friend in Crestview who loves the new speed cushions there. I know a lot of people hate speed bumps, but he said these aren't as hard on the cars, and they work. Perhaps they would be a good idea for Zach Scott.

I've caught myself speeding on there the past couple of days... usually 35 by the time I realize it. The radar sign help me remember to keep an eye on it and not "zone out" trying to get home. I've seen (in other cities) similar permanent signs that did not display your current speed, only "lit up" the speed limit sign if you were speeding. A flashing yellow border around the speed limit sign or a couple of yellow ball lights that would flash if the speed limit was being exceeded, etc type thing.

--BK

I really wish people would drive the speed limit in the neighborhood. Lots of speeding on Zach Scott Street. For the most part it is the same people everyday. Please drive on Zach Scott the way you would like others to drive on the street you live on. The posted speed limit on Zach Scott St. is 30 MPH.

Thanks,
SandJsRoost

      Posted 20 hours ago

Betsy,

I need to suggest one more area where traffic is becoming dangerous in the neighborhood. Within the last three weeks I've had two very close calls while inching into traffic exiting the Petsmart parking lot near Philomena St.and turning both left and right onto Lancaster Drive.

Clear vision here while entering Lancaster is difficult with the parking all along on the street opposite Dell Children's Hospital. During the day all these spaces are fully occupied.

A heavier traffic load has developed on Lancaster and the cars passing through now move quickly and usually without caution. It is the speed with which the cars are moving that causes my problem. By the time I see them I've already inched into the street and twice I've just not seen a car and nearly had a collision. Honestly, I'm a safe driver!!

It seems to me that there is some cut through traffic is occurring here. I've noticed cut through traffic also on Mueller Blvd. and cars sometimes seem frustrated and follow too close when I drive the speed limit there. I notice that traffic is coming from 51st and traveling through to Airport and Manor.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you very much,
Mary

Scales St.
When I lived in the South Bronx there was a car parked out in front of my apartment block for weeks. Everyday more and more parts disappeared. Finally, after someone set it ablaze, NYPD towed it. So, maybe a little A&M bonfire might get some action out of the APD.
