Solar eclipse
posted by henningspruth on May 20th, 2012 10:31 PM
I climbed on one of the rubble piles in the undeveloped part of Mueller to watch the solar eclipse through a high-tech Kenneth Cole pinhole camera, and took a few pictures with my cell phone. I find them interesting, even though the image quality is quite horrible. Below is an example, you can see all 30 pictures here: henningspruth/sets/72157629823778014/" rel="nofollow">http://www.flickr.com/photos/henningspruth/sets/72157629823778014/ Henning

Changes to Alliance/Time-Warner cable/internet deal?
posted by Justin Ong on April 25th, 2012 8:10 AM
henningspruth, you should look into EarthLink. It's the EXACT same service as TWC, in fact, when you order online with EL, a TWC representative will call you to confirm. Since you are already a TWC internet subscriber, there's no additional installation, the billing just switches over to EL for $29.99 a month for the first 6 months ($41.99 after that, at which point you can either renegotiate your rate, or go back to TWC for that same deal you mentioned).

Lights of Love 5K pictures!

I had joined the Mueller Flyers team, butI hurt my foot a week ago and was unable to run on Friday [].Since my backup hobby is photography, I took position near the finish line with camera and tripod to capture the action.A word of caution: these pictures were taken at night, without flash, of people trying to move as fast as possible. They are certainly not studio quality (among others, they are underexposed to keep the shutter time short), but you may be able to recognize yourself hurtling towards the finish line.A selection of 234 pictures is here: . They capture most of the runners who came in under 35 minutes (that's when my card ran full). If you want to take a closer look, you can click through to the full resolution images. The total number of pictures I took is around 1100 - you'll have to come by with an 8GB USB stick if you want them all.Below are two examples - the majority of the images look like the 2nd one:

Last Sunday I took a few pictures during a short stroll to the gravel piles and sand pits that make up the center of the old airport. You can check them out here: They compare nicely against simiar pictures from April 2008:

It is Myoo-lur - NOT!!
posted by John Guest on November 6th, 2008 9:35 AM
This has been kind of like Republicans and Democrats trying to assert the stark differences between each other. Most normal people are somewhere in between and now that the election is over, I hope we can all work in the spirit of compromise to get our country out of the many messes we seem to find ourselves in. So I have been arguing that “Mill-er” is the proper pronunciation of Mueller. And the Crazy Guggenheim types have been arguing that it’s “Myoo-lur”. Now that the election is over, can’t we all just get along? My blatantly goofy German cousin-in-law, Dieter, has explained that the correct pronunciation is actually neither, BUT is closer to “Mill-er” than to “Myoo-lur”. If you listen closely to the audio bit provided by henningspruth, I hear a sound that is different than the two extremes cited by the different Mueller parties in this controversy. Dieter explained that the actual sound is difficult to translate to anglicized speech and so he contends that “Mill-er” is closer to the German pronunciation. My ears actually hear something that sounds like “Mwell-er”, but the “w” in the “well” sound is ever so slight. So – in the spirit of compromise – I am going to work very hard to pronounce my neighborhood’s name as “MwELL-ER” and see if I can position myself somewhere between Crazy Guggenheim and James Bond. We are no longer blue and red neighbors, nor Miller and Myooler neighbors; we are Mwell-ers through and through! So for me it’s Mweller, Mweller, Mweller! []
PUD to PUD
posted by Kevin Ludlow on October 23rd, 2008 10:48 PM
I think Grant may have already written it, but it technically wouldn't be rezoned ever. ...I should have specified when I used the word in my initial response instead of just putting it in quotes.Grant is much MUCH more knowledgeable of this stuff than am I, but in Mueller people don't actually live in SFx (single family-x) zoning districts as typically do in neighborhoods, but rather everyone lives in a single PUD.From a different point of view, take the Mueller and Windsor Park neighborhoods and imagine a giant circle around each of them. The Mueller circle can be described as a PUD. The Windsor Park circle however can't be described at all and rather contains hundreds of smaller circles each with their own zoning. Here are the if you're interested.Maybe Grant can chime in again, but I'm not sure if they can decide to change a residential part of the PUD to commercial after the fact or if the changes are specifically reserved for density (ie: building an apartment complex where houses were otherwise intended to be).

Langhugh (et al):I attended the rail brief this morning as well, and though I didn't see you, am glad to know you were there.I intend to also be there for the 7 August council meeting, and to make some comments. For the record, I am an ardent supporter of Austin adopting a light rail plan sooner rather than later. Like Henningspruth, I have spent quite a bit of time in Europe (though unlike him, I am not a native), and that is why I am so adamant about the need for us to convert here. Moving into Mueller was in part predicated on the expectation of the rail line, which would almost allow me to live car-free. I would gladly get together with any and all community residents interested in this topic to see if there is any consensus view. I am becoming increasingly active myself on energy issues, and looking for all outlets available to express support for our city to start to wean itself off its automobile-dependent lifestyle.See Krusee's op-ed from the 7 July Statesman: http://www.statesman.com/search/content ... _edit.htmlGetting a little greener every day.
Re: Pictures from the backcountry

I really have no idea what that one is. The picture was taken beyond the park - on the overview map at http://muelleraustin.com/media/buzz/fac ... rative.pdf, I probably was standing near the future intersection of Berkman Dr and Simond Ave. Confusingly, the map doesn't show any waterways in that area, and the ditch looks a bit too elaborate to be temporary.Henning

Great pics henningspruth. What is that little green strip which comes out of the drainage pipe? I think it is located just beyond the park. Is that going to be a little creek or just some ugly concrete drainage ditch? Will it be buried? I didn't see it on Mueller map plans.

Are you talking about the Emma Long neighborhood block party? (See this link: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1507) I think it is supposed to be from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. The Capitol 10K starts at 8:45am, so unless you are reeeeeeally slow, you could do both. :P (At least I plan to.)Or is there some other Mueller Open House event planned for that morning that I don't know about? In any event, welcome Garreth! I'll eventually get around to posting an introductory meet-your-neighbor post myself soon...

I'll fix it when I get a chance ... compared to my older printout, it also seems that what used to be the southern part of Lawless St is now Carl Rodgers St?!?Henning

henningspruth,Nice work on the map. It will be very helpful while we wait for the major sites to be updated. I did notice however that the street you labeled "Moreno St." is actually "Littlefield St."

I have done before, but this year it falls on a huge Mueller Open House event, so I'm going to that instead. When I find the nearest running trail, I'll start 'training' for the next 10k I can though.Garreth

I put my stuff into PODS storage back in June and inquired about the issue. At the time, PODS said it'd be OK if the builder agreed in writing. To be honest, I didn't get anything in writing, but assumed that worst case I'd get a small fine. I had my container delivered on Friday and picked up on Monday. Henning
PODS/Pack Rats

My wife and I have been exchanging emails back and forth with Jennifer (the public relations person at Mueller) about PODS/Pack Rats. She has called the city and the city said that we can NOT have those on the street for any period of time because it can block traffic, and in an emergency block fire trucks and ambulances. We are not too happy about this because now we have to hire movers from the storage to our house. Henningspruth: Did the POD company do a same day or next day pick up after you emptied the container? Thank you for the original post...we greatly appreciate it!!!
