Wanted to borrow book: Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson
posted by dodger on April 20th, 2015 8:28 PM
Does anyone have a copy of the book Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson that I could borrow to take to France with me? I would need it from about now until I return in mid-May. A library hard copy would work, but I won't have it back in time. The book is not yet out in e-book nor is it out in audio. If you have it and would be willing to lend, I will take good care. I'm supposed to read it for a book club meeting I will be attending when I am visiting a friend in Paris. oo-la-la. PM me and I will happily pick it up from your porch or whatever is most convenient for you. Thanks, Marsha (aka Dodger)

I saw Lucy and Lucy, dressed as princesses, playing with a toy cloth picnic basket on Tuesday at Ella Wooten Park. I found it on a bench there on Wednesday afternoon (yesterday 12/10). If this is the same picnic basket that belongs to one of the Lucies or if it belongs to someone else in the neighborhood, send me a pm and I'll arrange to leave it on my porch for you to pick up. Mueller House Hawk

Thanks, Dan and Joe! indicates that they have a hunting radius of less than a mile from their nest. Given the relative dearth of trees on the undeveloped land compared to say Morris Williams, I'm guessing that future development will have little impact on nesting.Much like Dodger noticed an increase in grackles, I'm also seeing an increase in pigeons. If the hawks can keep their numbers down, I'd be happy for the POA to do what it can to keep them around.-steve

Just like every other neighborhood forum around the country I suspect that parking and poop take up the majority of the content... At least we talk about other things too.Just out of curiosity, I missed the thread on human poop mentioned in Dodger's post, could somebody link to it? I don't know why I want to know what its about, I just doo.

Yes Dodger, I've come to realize that same thing as I've been reading a lot of threads on here since I joined the site recently. The majority of the posts are indeed about sh*t. A lot of useful information is on here too, which I appreciate. [:rasberry:]
Anyone pro-parking in your garage signs out there?

dodger,I'm sure you have realized that even when the site is slow, you better click on "Post Response" only once []. No worries, everybody has done it.The topic about street parking has already been discussed a few months ago - I think the POA guidelines are pretty clear about it (you have to sign the POA covenants which state you can't park a car on the street for >72h), it's clear that these are not widely followed.Personally, I always use the garage, but I realize that things are difficult for families with grown-up kids.Henning

We've been fighting the giant green caterpillars - they blend very well with green leaves and can eat a LOT in a short time. They leave droppings on the ground beneath their feeding areas

Hi Dodger, We just went around the neighborhood at 12noon to pick everything up (giving late comers a chance to donate, as well)...I'll take another drive by to make sure we got it from your place as well. Thanks again for the donation!

While $30 may do the job for many, the Protectrix Wireless Garage Door Closer model described above was a breeze to install (no sensor-alignment, drilling, stapling, wire runs, etc.) at $80. Once you value in your time or if it takes a long time for you to get around to a "project", the Proetectrix is a pretty good choice. My experience with it over 3 months has been as positive as the review above.

Dodger, you might want to try calling these cities if not getting a resonance fairly soon.Rod

Just a quick update on the Automatic Garage Door Closers. I recently purchased and installed the , which was one of the better reviewed wirelsss options (no running wires from the door to an electric outlet. Installation was easy, and I can attest that it works with the Overhead Door Company Legacy openers in the David Weekley Homes. I don't know about other makes, but I know that the Overhead Legacy supposedly has a CodeDodger technology that automatically cycles between one of 4,300,000,000 combinations, and somehow the Protectrix can learn that code algorithm. I linked a review above, but below is the company website for more info:
