Missing your outdoor umbrella?
posted by Ashley on October 18th, 2011 5:57 AM
When out running this morning, found a large outdoor umbrella blowing down the street. At first I thought it was from the pool, but I think it is from someone's house. I think it is black, but it was dark out, so could have been dark green or something. We put the umbrella down and wedged it into the pool fencing to keep it from blowing away. It is now on the Mendez side of the pool near the picnic tables. Hope someone claims it! Ashley

AC Advise in a Streetman Home
posted by boogiebuggy on August 2nd, 2011 9:44 AM
Hi! We live in a Streetman Home on Mendez Street and there is a problem with our AC -- perfect timing right :) There is a leak where the evaporator connects to the coil. The coil is under warranty, but to get it fixed the bid is $600. The company that we got the estimate from is Efficient Air Conditioning. When they came out to check it out they added more refrigerant and cleaned the coils and the service call was $200. Has anybody had this problem with their AC unit? Any recs for fixing it? The AC is still running, but it is in the upper eighties inside. One of the reasons that we went with purchasing a new home is to avoid shelling out large sums of money for repairs. I am wondering if anybody has run into this and has had the repair done by the builder. Thanks! Barton Springs anybody? --bev

Just a reminder about tomorrow's parade and pool party. The parade participants are invited to gather at Lake Park, near the playground and restrooms starting at 9:30. The parade leaves promptly at 10:00, right after the national anthem, so don't be late! If you aren't up to strutting your stuff in your patriotic finest, come out and cheer us on. I hear the Mueller Lawn Chair Drill Treat will be a special treat this year. The short parade route goes from the Lake Park playground down Simond, then Mattie, Pickney, Antone, Mendez and then straight into the pool to cool off (so bring your suits!). Stick around for the pool party for music, games, prizes, and FREE SNOWCONES, courtesy of the awesome folks at Frost Bank. See you there, and have a happy and safe Independence Day!!!

Grade School Boy on "Wave" skateboard
posted by Betsy on February 12th, 2011 9:48 PM
I passed two boys this afternoon on Berkman. Where no cars were parked, they were over in the parking area, but then they got into the traffic lane to go around parked cars. In and out several times. I slowed down and spoke with them through the window, pointing out that they'd be safer out of the street. One boy said they were in the bike lane but when I pointed out there is no marked bike lane, he said 'oh'. I told them that some cars go fast on Berkman and it's really not safe. They said "okay" and as I drove off, I heard one say "oh man....."Also, AFD was out today testing fire hydrants. Joe was watching while they opened the one at the corner of Antone & Mendez. Two boys (not sure if they're the same ones I saw) were heading East on Antone and they were in the Westbound travel lane (i.e. against traffic). A car was behind them and a firefighter told the boys to get out of the road.I don't know if either boy is Karie & Marcus' son, but I do hope the parents of these boys see this and have a talk with them.

Does anyone on the pool committee know if the baby pool also not being maintained? Also, any firm dates on actual repair and/or reopening? At this point I think we'd all just like to know something definite, even if it's two months (or more), so we can move and get used to the idea of not having full use of the pool. Thanks!Beverly on Mendez
