Carpet Repair Expert Needed

My tenant's cleaning lady spilled bleach on an area of carpet. The cleaning group has insurance and will pay to repair. They have someone who will paint bleached area of the carpet, but I feel the entire master bedroom should be replaced. It is in a visible spot. Any recommendations on a great carpet installer/expert? I know the color and type of carpet used in the Meritage home. Thanks, Melissa 512 657 1822
Wallet found
posted by MelissaLovelace on October 21st, 2012 3:10 PM
Hi, I was riding my bike around the neighborhood and saw what I thought was a cell phone in a wristlet-type case. It was not a cell phone, but someone's wallet, including driver's license and other i.d. It was in the street near the passenger door of a black Jeep parked on the wrong side of the street. I rang several doorbells on both sides, but got no response. Asked 1 man who happened to be outside who didn't know the person on the driver's license. Please respond to this post if you think this is your wallet or know how to contact the owner. Melissa

Swim team at Patterson Pool - June 4-July 7
posted by queeneliz1 on April 14th, 2012 5:06 PM
It's April and almost time for city swim team this summer at Patterson Park - just across Airport from Mueller! Registration started April 2 and the Patterson/neighborhood swim team is page 11. They meet M-F from 7-9pm from June 4-July 7. Age 5-17. $70 plus $10 t-shirt. We have participated for 2 summers and been really happy with it. It's really a fun community and some of us carpooled last year so parents don't have to go every night. Our great coach Melissa Colpitts is back this year. She is very understanding with the prereq's if your child can swim, ie, underwater, etc. our daughter actually learned all the strokes in swim team. There is also a Facebook group for the team where the coach posts updates, parents ask questions/discuss events, etc., let me know if you are interested.Go Piranhas!http://www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/Parks/Pools/2012_English_1.pdfMelanie

One ticket is needed for each activity. We are really excited about this fundraiser. Costumes are encouraged! A Note from Melissa Rios, the event coordinator and Director of Eco Friends Austin Cancer has affected many of us in one way or another. This year I am forming my team to honor my cousin Christopher who passed last December. Christopher fought leukemia once, and then it re-occurred. The second time he was diagnosed, I saw with my own eyes the progress that had been made in cancer treatment in only one year. Sadly, he passed due to complications from a weak immune system, but the actual cancer treatments he underwent had such fewer side-effects, which counted for a lot when he was in pain. Other children who are so special to me have recently beaten leukemia and I honor their strength and spirit as well. Please help us raise money for such an important cause!

Problem is, our provider, Allstate, doesn't offer a rider for them. Anyone have any suggestions? We're willing to consider moving our entire homeowner's policy to another carrier if necessary. Swim team at Patterson Pool - June 6-July 16
posted by queeneliz1 on May 2nd, 2011 10:36 AM
Hi neighbors, Here is the link to swim team info for Austin Parks & Rec, Patterson Park. We are planning to join the team again this summer and wanted to let you know about it! The swim team practices are from June 6-July 16, Mon-Thurs 7:00-8:30PM (but last year they broke up the age groups last year so under age 8 or so was there the first 45 min., followed by older kids at 7:45-8:30). Fee is $70 plus $10 for optional t-shirt. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/swimteam.htm Prerequesites: Must be 5 to 17 years old Must be able to swim 25 yards continuous freestyle (front crawl) Must be able to swim 25 yards continuous backstroke (back crawl) This was a fantastic experience for our 6 year old daughter last summer. In our experience, #2-3 were less stringent rules, our daughter knew how to swim underwater across a pool and she learned the other strokes during the summer and ended up with mild proficiency in each. And a better schedule for working parents, too :) We would be happy to carpool with other interested families. And it wasn't super high-pressure, we missed a few practices and a couple of swim meets. From what we hear the coach last summer, Melissa, will be back this summer, and she was fantastic, very positive and encouraging with the kids. Her mom even came to the meets and her brother swam on the team, that shows her dedication!

posted by Mark Holzbach on September 17th, 2010 3:16 PM
This donation will purchase an Imagination Playground to be used in Republic Square Park, Brush Square, and Wooldridge Square Park. Here's an excerpt from an email about this from APF director Charlie McCabe: ----------------------------- September 9, 2010 7:37:31 AM CDT Hello! Up early to announce the following on Fox7 News this morning.... At 1:30 pm today at the grand opening of the newest Amplify Credit Union branch at 607 Congress Avenue, Amplify President & CEO Paul Trylko will announce a $12,000 donation to the Austin Parks Foundation for the purchase of the first Imagination Playground in a Box for Austin. The Austin Parks Foundation will offer the portable playground at events at Republic Square and other parks in Austin beginning in early 2011. We're very excited about this donation, we saw an early prototype two years ago at a urban parks conference in Pittsburgh and knew we had to get one. We're very grateful to Amplify for making this possible and offering to work with us to bring it to parks in Austin. We'll be purchasing the rugged version and storing it near Republic Square. (We do need a place to keep it - its a big rugged cart on wheels - 4 feet wide, 7 feet long and 9.5 feet high and is locked. (A close by parking garage, storage unit, or empty office would be ideal - if you have such a space, please let me know) The units are manufactured individually and take a few months to complete, so we'll be ordering it later this fall and expecting delivery in early January 2011. We have promised Amplify that we'll have the the playground out and available a minimum of 20 times a year - Farmer's Markets, Movies, and other events will be a few of the opportunities. We'll be training volunteers to open it, monitor it and pack it up and Amplify is very interested in helping out with this. Here's a video that gives you a quick overview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHVAn7SdmbU My thanks to the staff of Amplify Credit Union as well as Melissa Barry and Molly Alexander of the Downtown Austin Alliance who brought us together with Amplify. I heart Houndstooth. This is my second morning in a row. The coffee is the best. I used to look to JP's and Teo for good coffee. I'm now a Houndstooth convert. I met Sean and Melissa and baby, too!

My kitchen disposal just broke and of course I am two weeks out of my one year warranty. Can you recommend a reasonable priced handyperson to look and install. Would that be a plumber or electrician or just handyperson? Melissa. Send names my way... thanks.
Cash for Kids Stuff-Kid to Kid Austin Resale Shop
posted by adeleaibsen on November 12th, 2009 8:44 AM
I work at a WONDERFUL resale shop up north and we are needing to boost our inventory for the holidays. We are looking for all things baby and kid: clothing(infant-10yrs), equipment, toys, slings, maternity, nursing, furniture, strollers, etc. It is not a consignment shop, we pay in the moment, so there is now coming back in 30 days to see if things sold. We have buyers there M-F 10-5pm. If you can come on the weekends, you can choose to drop off your goods and we will call you several days later to let you know how much cash or store credit you have. BTW, store credit is 20% more! We have the best Melissa and Doug inventory in all of Austin (no really!) and a killer selection of bows made by local artists. We just ask that all things are gently used and clean when you bring them and if all clothing is laid flat in a box or laundry hamper, that will expedite the process. Come support a local business and have some extra cash for the holidays. PM me if you have any questions. http://austin.kidtokid.com/
Mueller Street Closings: We do have a voice.

FYI- Having lived in Hyde Park, here is what I have learned. The Transportation Dept with the City of Austin receives all event permit requests including those that require street closues. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/specialevents/maps.htm That particular department reviews the route plan (sometimes a year in advance) presented by the event holder and there is also a neighborhood notification process whereby if a certain percentage of residents are opposed to the route plan for an upcoming event then the event planner will be asked to reroute. The notification process would take place in conjunction with the permit process, thus we would have to voice our concerns early on - not just weeks prior to the event. The events come into the Transportation Department sometimes a year in advance - particularly if they are annual events. The Transportation Department also have a website posted so residents can see what events are seeking permits. Point being we do have a voice and I wonder if the HOA is just OKing everything on our behalf? One would have to express their concerns before the ball gets rolling. Sometimes it just a matter of rerouting one part of the run/walk, etc.. Also, there are to be police escorts at every major closure so that if residents have to leave or enter the neighborhood - they help facilitate that process. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/specialevents/maps.htm Melissa.
