Interesting. I haven't experienced anything like that near Scales and McCloskey. Might be interesting to ask someone at Pike Powers Lab. Keep us in the loop with findings.

Someone asked where I live, and I have 2 citiCite logins, 1 of which I don't remember, so I can't reply to the message individually.4116 Scales, the red house in the Garden Court between Scales and Camacho, between Zach Scott and McCloskey. There is a tub with a light green lid on my porch. I have fewer donations than in previous years, and there are more of us, so I hope to see more this weekend. Thanks to all who have donated!!

Found an earring near the mailbox on McCloskey near its intersection with Scales. If missing a gold colored dangly jeweled earring let me know. Looks to be costume jewelry.
my little black cat got out again
posted by Deanna L Hoisington on March 8th, 2013 5:32 AM
I do not know if this black cat is your cat, as It does not appear to be too skinny. It could be Alaya, for which posters were put in all areas. I have seen this cat sitting on the porch of the vacant house 2008 McCloskey between Scales and Camacho. When I approached it, it immediately ran away. This was approximately 1 month ago. The last spottings have been recent. It was in the alley behind the 2008 address, and then on the corner of McCloskey and Scales. When approached, it runs away. If I were able to catch it, I don't where I would put it. We have 2 dogs that are not chummy with cats.
Lost a Hearing Aid
posted by Deanna L Hoisington on February 18th, 2013 6:27 PM
Lost hearing aid about 2 months ago somewhere around Zach Scott, Camacho, McCloskey, and Scales. We have 2 dogs so we walk a lot. The brand is Oticon. It has a black piece that goes over the ear, which is then attached to a small wire, which is connected to a clear plastic bell shaped piece which goes inside the ear. Overall, it is 1-1/2" square. There is a reward. Please send information to me on CitiCite private mail.

Hi, I know you said there was a previous cat sighting by Scales and McCloskey, but I just wanted to post that I saw a cat that looks like the one in the picture that just jumped into the storm drain in front of 4105 Scales when I went near it. It did not have a collar though, but maybe it came off somehow?

We need your help to send AISD a message!
posted by mrs aaron on September 24th, 2012 9:11 PM
Alrighty everyone! I have been slacking on my nagging job, but we really need those handwritten letters to the Trustees of the AISD School Board. I had hoped to turn them in tonight, but we don't have the quantity needed to make an impression. Please take 5 minutes to write your letter and another 5 minutes to drop it off at 4116 Scales, the red house in the Garden Court between Scales and Camacho and McCloskey and Zach Scott. The letter's salutation should be to the Trustees. See below for further guidance. If you know me, you know I will keep badgering you to do this. []The Mueller neighborhood hopes to send a simple message to the Austin Independent School District. The message: “Mueller families proudly attend AISD schools in large numbers.” AISD seems confused. At a recent meeting regarding Austin’s next school-building bond, an AISD staffer suggested that Mueller’s students were all attending private school. This statement was generally regarded as fact, and several heads around the room nodded in agreement. There is a major misconception that our neighborhood is detached from our neighborhood public schools. This could not be further from the truth. The civic nature of our parents extends deeply into AISD schools, and we hope a letter-writing campaign restores this truth. Our hope is that you would hand-write a short letter telling your family’s story. After signing your letter, simply return it to Kim Wine’s porch at 4116 Scales (red house in the Garden Court near the corner of Littlefield and Camacho). We’ll take care of making copies and hand-delivering them to AISD’s central office and the Board of Trustees. Here are a few ideas that you may wish to include in your letter.• Please consider telling your personal story on why you are proud to send your children to an AISD school.• According to a recent poll of parents in Mueller, 78% of school-aged children are attending AISD public schools, 9% are attending charter schools, 9% are attending private schools, and 4% are homeschooling. AISD schools attended include Maplewood Elementary, Ridgetop Elementary, Lee Elementary Kealing Middle School, Fulmore Middle School, McCallum High School, and LASA. Future phases of our neighborhood will track to Blanton Elementary, Pearce Middle School, and Reagan High School.• Mueller parents participate heavily in AISD Campus Advisory Councils and hold several leadership positions in local Parent Teacher Associations. • Mueller parents have been deeply involved in volunteerism within AISD schools. This includes: o Serving as mentors and classroom coaches in many east Austin AISD schools with Austin Partners in Education, Communities in Schools, and the Seedling Foundationo Starting a food pantry at Maplewood Elementary o Tending to school gardens at Maplewood and Ridgetopo Writing grant applications that earned AISD significant statewide recognition.• Mueller neighbors rallied around Maplewood Elementary to earn $5,000 from Kleenex and $500 from Target in high-profile national Facebook contests. In both cases, Maplewood was the highest ranked school in Austin. Thanks again for telling your story,Kim Wine and Dusty Harshman

School Supply Donation Drive
posted by kim wine on August 9th, 2011 3:51 PM
It is that time of year...back to school! And it is time to donate some school supplies to the nearby schools. This year, Maplewood is asking for pencil boxes and backpacks. I know HEB has some cool pencil boxes made of recycled materials. Backpacks with no cartoon or movie characters would be most appropriate. We also have a tradition of donating to Pearce Middle School. As soon as they call me back, I will post their wish-list. Please drop off these items, or $$ to go towards these items, to 4116 Scales Street (red house in Garden Court 1, between Zach Scott and McCloskey and Scales and Camacho). I will collect until Friday, August 19. PM me if you have questions. Thanks!!

Just got home 10am, Friday morning, and noticing a APD car and motorcycle cop riding around the neighborhood, mostly Scales, Zach Scott, and McCloskey area. Was stopped by patrol car and asked if I'd seen a guy in a red hat running around. They didn't mention why they were looking for him. Just thought I'd give folks a heads up!

River Rock
posted by icemonkeyharvest on May 20th, 2010 11:28 PM
Mrs Aaron has finished her project, and I still have two wheelbarrows full of river rock left. The best part, aside from the price (free), is that it is already in two wheelbarrows! Just come on by and wheel away some stone, but please return the wheelbarrows. I'll be home most of the day Friday and through out the weekend. If I'm not, you can help yourself. They are located in the alley behind the house on the corner of McCloskey and Scales under a brown tarp. They are heavy so eat your spinach. Also beware that the black wheelbarrow is old and it's legs are on the verge of failure, so be kind or you may find your stone in a really bad spot.Enjoy.

We've finished our french drain, but are left with about half a cubic yard of river rock. Might be enough for a small project or to fill in some bare spots of existing rock. I've a wheelbarrow to loan out if you need it. Please toss the tarp over the fence if you take the last of it. We're located on the corner of McCloskey and Scales. Enjoy.
Mueller Megawatt project: solar discussion TONIGHT
posted by Ms Ice Monkey on September 23rd, 2009 5:46 PM
As a prelude to the Mueller Solar Picnic next week, I am hosting a small, informal discussion for those who are considering solar but have yet to choose an installer. We can go over our quotes, discuss the pros and cons of various vendors, and perhaps organize into smaller groups to move forward with contracts. Getting our rebate applications in soon is becoming more crucial, as it seems that Austin Energy may propose a rebate change or actually change the rebate tomorrow morning. If you are interested in participating in this discussion, even if you have not previously been to the Mueller Megawatt meetings, please join us this evening at 7:30 at Timothy's and my house, 2016 McCloskey at the corner of Scales.
Another Theft
posted by smittyhoo on August 6th, 2009 10:24 AM
I was up this morning around 3am and saw a probably early to mid-90s white station wagon pull into the alley on the north side of McCloskey between Camacho and Scales. I thought it was a bit odd and watched for a bit from my window to see if I saw the car pull out of the alley but I couldn't really see from my window. Possibily related to the attempted break-in?
Possible Street Reconstruction
posted by msmelhem on June 13th, 2009 11:43 AM
Sorry, I just posted a new topic on this before I realized this was here, so I'll just add what I know, which is basically only that MORE streets than what you listed are being re-paved.Hi...we just learned that they are planning to repave McCloskey, Emma Long, and Antone...and it looks like Scales. Does anyone know why this is happening and who is footing the bill? It seems like the roads are just fine to me. It also seems like kind of a waste to repave while big construction vehicles are constantly driving through the neighborhood.

Lost & Found: fire truck bib
posted by Ms Ice Monkey on November 6th, 2008 9:12 AM
Quite a few days ago, we found a bib in our front yard and hung it on the metal stake supporting one of our trees, hoping its owner would walk back by. It seems that hasn't happened yet, as it's still there. If it belongs to your little one, please come by and retrieve it! We are on the north side of McCloskey, and the bib is hanging on the last tree before you reach Scales. The bib is white with red trim and a red fire truck on it. Thanks!
McCloskeyites Unite!
posted by Ms Ice Monkey on September 25th, 2008 3:06 PM
To clarify, Garreth is the block captain for McCloskey between Tom Miller and Camacho. I have the five houses between Camacho and Scales... and the whole other side of the street to the park if those houses are ever finished! As for chipping in for ingredients, sangria is cheap. I think we should all chip in by all participating in some shape or form, whether having something on the porch or visiting and meeting neighbors on their porches!

Clean Up After Your Dog!!!
posted by Ms Ice Monkey on June 20th, 2008 5:28 PM
Please clean up after your dog. We are sick of all of the dog sh*t in our yard, today in our flower bed! It's incredibly rude to your new neighbors to leave them with the chore of cleaning up your mess. If you think you might be the culprit today, feel free to come by this evening and pick it up. We're at the corner of Scales and McCloskey and are tired of being your dog's toilet.

We have tons of boxes to give away! Two wardrobe boxes, small boxes, large boxes, boxes with double-corrugated cardboard (good for dishes and fragile items). There's also more bubble wrap than you'd know what to do with. Just stop by to pick some up, or send us a PM.Elizabeth and Timothy2016 McCloskey (at the corner of Scales St.)
Hello, we're Timothy and Elizabeth!
posted by icemonkeyharvest on October 8th, 2007 6:48 PM
Despite our initial reservations, we decided to buy at Mueller. After quite a bit of house hunting in central Austin neighborhoods, we realized that the houses here really do provide a lot for the money. We're very excited to be moving to McCloskey and Scales sometime in 2008! Timothy is an astronaut/rodeo clown and BIM tech for a structural engineering firm - if you hadn't surmised from all the 3-D models. Elizabeth is an architecutral historian - hence her interest in buying an older house, but she's very excited about this new bit of Austin's history. We're looking forward to you inviting us over for beer and cookies.
