Utilizing storage unit
posted by James Gen on March 31st, 2020 12:40 AM
Hey, Two of our friends moved to London last month, and they will come back to Canada in July. So they asked us to keep some stuff throughout this period, and we agreed. But as COVID-19 got widespread, some of our relatives got stuck in Markham. So they came to us for help, and we have to accommodate them, and we did, but the stuff of our friends is really space-consuming. There are six cartoons with books and some more cartoons with clothes, bed linen, cutlery, a few lamps and all. So we are thinking about moving this stuffs to a self-storage unit until this situation puts an end. So we searched for a nearby storage unit with . We've gone through some sites, and impressed with a few, but I think due to COVID-19 there must be some price variations. So I would like to know the basic charge of a storage unit so that I can try to do some negotiation if they raised the price. I hope someone here could help us!

MUELLER INFORMAL POLL #1 - Interactive Public Art for Town Center/Aldrich St
posted by Mateo Barnstone on November 1st, 2012 10:38 AM
Personally, I don't really care what they call it as long as they build it. The branding seems to me to be a peripheral issue - not important to the overall success of the project. If Aldrich St. doesn't work out people will find their own names and it will happen organically. As far as public art - I think art-by-committee or art-by-consensus usually doesn't end up being interesting to anyone. I'd rather see a selection process to pick an artist and let the artist come up with the concept. But if we're throwing out ideas and seeing what sticks - I like stuff that is interesting and thoughtful, but doesn't take itself too seriously. Hard to come up with examples - but this is kind of idea that is fun for people to gather around:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1021258/The-amazing-telescope-lets-New-York-Londons-Tower-Bridge.html

While I'm sorry to miss this year's opening ceremonies in GC1, I'd like to encourage everyone to attend. New residents, old residents...join together and make fun of the British for one beautiful night.

Don't forget that the ceremonies are on Friday night. Come to the GC1 and bring a chair/blanket and something to drink. If you want to pot luck a side, feel more than free. I'll have some hot dogs going and once my future olympians who double as my kids get their share, the rest will open to the public.I'll be tivo'ing the ceremonies until dark, but show up before hand and hang. See you all there tomorrow night.

So roughly four years ago, I showed the opening ceremonies on the outdoor screen in GC1. I figure its a tradition now that leap year enthusiasts can love. Friday July 27th at dark, I'll show the Tivo'ed opening ceremonies. If I knew how to make fish and chips I would make some, but I'll probably just grill some hotdogs and sausages and call them bangers. If you want to show up and bring something, please do. We can even paint numbers on the kids and make them race around the GC while we gamble on them. Anyhow, I'm not gong to put too much thought into it, but we as a community should hang out and be Americans for a night. PS. If you are not an American, you are most welcome as well. The actual games do not start this night so we all can be friendly until the lawn bowling starts. Then its going to be like the revolutionary war all over. PPS. For our new neighbors, GC1 is the garden court between Scales and Camacho, just look for the big screen and the people milling about.
Kids Can't Accurately Judge Speed of Approaching Cars: Study
posted by doug on April 26th, 2011 9:14 AM
http://consumer.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=646577 Young children can't tell the speed of a vehicle 5 seconds away and moving faster than 20 mph TUESDAY, Nov. 30 (HealthDay News) -- Primary school children cannot accurately estimate the speed of approaching vehicles moving faster than 20 miles per hour, finds a new study. "This is not a matter of children not paying attention, but a problem related to low-level visual detection mechanisms," John Wann, lead researcher and a professor in the department of psychology at Royal Holloway College, University of London, said in a university news release. "So even when children are paying very close attention, they may fail to detect a fast-approaching vehicle," Wann warned. He and his colleagues assessed the perceptual acuity of more than 100 primary school children and calculated their ability to reliably judge the speed of an approaching vehicle. While adult pedestrians can make accurate estimates of vehicle speeds up to 50 mph, the children's judgments were unreliable when the speed was above 20 mph and the vehicle was five seconds away. "These findings provide strong evidence that children may make risky crossing judgments when vehicles are traveling at 30 or 40 mph," Wann said. "In addition, the vehicles that they are more likely to step in front of are the faster vehicles that are more likely to result in a fatality," he added. "Traveling one mile through a residential area at 20 mph versus 30 mph will only add 60 seconds to your journey time -- we encourage drivers to take a minute and save a child's life," Wann said. The study findings were released online Nov. 23 in advance of publication in an upcoming print issue of the journal Psychological Science.

Stunning Art Nouveau Armoire from Ealing, West London (manufacturer John Sanders) of beautiful Burled Walnut with brass knobs and handcarved fleur motif on door edges. Hate to get rid of it but I don't have room for it . . . it's in great shape - especially for circa 1900 England. Pictures do NOT do this justice - it's much more beautiful in person. Actual outside dimensions are: 73.25" high (at highest point) x 19.75" deep x 46.5" wide; inside dimensions: 66.75" x 17.5" x 46" Email with questions. Will deliver in Mueller for free, elsewhere in Austin for an extra $15 . . . further out up for negotiation. thanks, greg

http://www.amazon.com/Extreme-Prejudice-Terrifying-Story-Patriot/dp/1453642757 Published I guess as of Oct 15, 2010. I have ordered it, and would enjoy comparing notes with any other neighbors already reading it, or planning on reading it. There is one comment at this time on Amazon.com. I had heard of Susan Lindauer before, from other sources of information. -Rod "Editorial Reviews Product Description What if the government decided to invent a great lie to justify a disastrous war? What would happen to the people who know the truth? EXTREME PREJUDICE delivers an explosive, high tension expose of the real facts surrounding the CIA's advance warning of 9/11 and an insider's look at Iraqi Pre-War Intelligence, told by one of the very few U.S. Assets covering Iraq before the War. It reveals the depths of deception by leaders in Washington and London to promote a questionable image of their successful anti-terrorism policy, and the shocking brutality used to suppress that truth from the American people and the world community. About the Author Former Congressional staffer Susan Lindauer performed as a U.S. Intelligence Asset covering Libya and Iraq at the United Nations, as a back channel on matters of anti-terrorism from 1993 to 2002. Most notoriously, in the summer of 2001, her team warned about a major terrorist attack involving airplane hijackings and a strike on the World Trade Center. Lindauer also campaigned heavily against the War in Iraq, and developed a comprehensive peace framework through her back-channel in the run up to War. This is the story of what happened when Lindauer tried to disclose the true facts of Iraqi Pre-War Intelligence and the 9/11 warning to Congress and the American people. It details the nightmare of her arrest on the Patriot Act and her imprisonment without a trial at the notorious Carswell Prison inside a Texas military base. EXTREME PREJUDICE is a true life spy thriller."
