Somebody kicked my puppy
posted by S. Chiarello on February 1st, 2012 9:13 PM
I'm sorry someone kicked your dog.But I want to echo what Leila said.I am intimidated by dogs - from little yippie dogs to big drooling dogs. It is based on personal experience that I don't think I need to share. In your mind, that puppy just wants to say hello. In other people's minds who have been attacked - that puppy is another attacker.I think maybe you could focus on your job as a pet owner to keep your animals on a leash or in the house, and then we wouldn't be having this conversation thread in the first place.
Somebody kicked my puppy

hectoranddebbie, the puppy is fine, thanks for asking. Leila, I understand and don't disagree. For example, had my other dog (the one in the picture) been involved, I wouldn't have blamed him, because the other dog is intimidating and barks in an agressive way. Also, I freely admit that the puppy ran out of the house and ran up to them. But I think some basic standard of reason has to apply to things like this: we're talking about a puppy, a puppy that looks like a puppy and clearly is no threat to anything, and all she knows about people at this point in her life is that they are all nice and happy to see her. To your point about his life experience, I have personally been attacked and bitten in the face by somebody else's dog, and it doesn't give me license to go around kicking puppies who want to say hello. Finally I apologize to this forum for the title of this thread, which is unnecessary, but I was pretty angry about this, and still am.
Grey and white kitty
posted by Leila on October 23rd, 2011 9:17 AM
Karen, I'm not sure about this , but the kitty might belong to the garage apartment right behind your house. One time our kiddo was following a cat and I saw a little food and water dish on the stoop right outside the door to the garage apt. Maybe check there? Just a guess.-Leila
Gas fireplace
posted by Curtis LaFaitte on September 24th, 2011 8:19 AM
Hey Leila: Come ove and check mine out. It's the best. I got it from the place on 620 and 2222. Forget their name at the moment. Mine puts out a ton of heat so keeps the house warm in the winter. I believe mine cost around 300 and that is worth it. You get the warranty and you don't have to worry about blowing the neighborhood up :-).

I am looking for recommendations on installing a gas log and a glass cover installed in our fireplace. Who do you recommend and how much should I expect this kind of work to cost? Also, we saw online that many places require that you have something like this professionally installed. Is that the case in Austin or can you DIY? Thanks! Leila

Park Trash Cans
posted by Rahm McDaniel on March 24th, 2011 5:54 PM
Unhelpful? You mean like the signs?I pick up trash every time I go to our parks. I also check the water fountains, which are still broken. maybe we should get some signs to fix the water fountains, too.To Leila- I think there are a number of things we can do to improve the situation.1) I think as neighbors we could all help the parks by picking up trash when we see it. 2) We could use some more cans3) We should have the cans emptied more often. What I mostly see is full cans- which means people are trying to do the right thing. Let's encourage them by making space for trash in the right place.
Park Trash Cans
posted by vaden on March 23rd, 2011 10:08 AM
Hi Leila, Great post. I suspect trash cans aren't inside of the play area because sitting trash tends to attract bugs and bees. It might also make trash collection more difficult. But why more cans aren't around the play area, and around the picnic tables especially, is a question I have every time I take a weekend walk around the pond. I'm sure it was a matter of funding early on, before we knew if those areas would be busy. And that delay makes sense to me; but it looks like we're past that phase now. I think it's safe to say that the public areas will stay busy for the foreseeable future. So I'm with you, I'd love to see more trash cans. Maybe our HOA can gift a couple more cans to the park? Not for me to decide though. Thanks for bringing up this issue!
Anyone else having issues with delivery of Pilot House Coffee?
posted by keep_it_simple on February 11th, 2011 3:51 PM
My experience has been similar, Melanie. I think Robby is a great guy and I want to support his business endeavor. I have ordered from him once in the past ... requested my coffee be ground but received whole beans instead. Thought I'd try him again because his coffee is delish but after this ... no apologies, no communication ... I am left with a bitter taste in my mouth (and obviously it's not from coffee). Leila, the contact information you offered is what I've been using. Robby if you're out there .... hello?!
Natural Maple Crib for sale
posted by sloneycho on January 28th, 2011 2:16 AM
Interesting comparison, Jenna, but not particularly useful. What if you had the choice between two forms of transportation, both of which were equivalent in all ways except one was more physically convenient, yet more likely to harm your child? If you already have a drop side crib, you should do what you can to make it as safe as possible. If you are in the market for a crib, Leila's warning about them is entirely appropriate.-steve

Alarm company warning ~
posted by momof4 on July 19th, 2010 5:21 PM
yeah, Kevin I was actually in the process of closing the very account they were drafting from. So, we had just a tiny bit of $ still in there. It was due to the Overdrawn fee notices I started getting that I first learned they were still drafting from that account. That has led to many bank fees... it's a snowball of a problem :( The bank (so far) has been helpful and will help me put pressure on the alarm company to refund the money... we shall see.@Leila, good idea on the BBB. I'll go that route also. Thanks, y'all for the help!Felicia
Pecan Street Project Finalists
posted by langhugh on June 6th, 2010 6:11 PM
Leila/Michael:If I had any more information, I would post it. The Pecan Street Project seems to be getting their ducks in a row, but it is happening very slowly. I imagine they are still figuring out how to get a large city, its electric utility and chamber of commerce to collaborate with a large research university, the Environmental Defense Fund, and a myriad of large tech firms. No small task to organize simple regular meetings I imagine.Dusty

An earlier NYT article about early Mueller residents featured Dhananjay & Lakshi Joshi, Catherine Berry & David Hamburger, Jonathan & Maureen Slocum, and Corky Hilliard. Here is that earlier article:
