Harvey (POA Manager).
Dusty Harshman, Janelle Dozier, Bobby Gierisch and Helen Mason unable to attend (vacations etc.)
Agenda Topics:
(1) Review of RFP for Landscape Maintenance Contracts 2015. Five proposals were received and possible continuation with Valley Crest as 6th option. Top three will be asked to make presentations at September Meeting. Committee recommendation to go to POA Board in October. Irrigation repairs and ability to respond is a committee concern.
(2) New Discussion Items
(a.) Orchard- Orchard will be installed in the greenway at Berkman and Manor. Site preparation is underway. Orchard will include pears, peaches, figs, loquat and pecan. Possibly olives.
(b.) Community Garden- future community garden to be installed in park by new swimming pool. Garden will be fenced but available to the public as well as Mueller Community.
General Discussion:
-Tree Replacements/Plant Replacements. Community concerns carried forward regarding need to replace dead trees in the common green space. To date in 2014, 40 trees have been replaced with an additional 20+ needing replacements. Some trees will be replaced under warranty. Budget ($30k) has already been exceeded for tree replacements but plans are to continue with replacements this fall.
-Overhanging trees and vegetation onto sidewalks continues to be a problem in the community.
-Dead landscape plantings in common areas will be replaced. Estimates for replacements has been requested from landscape company. Landscape company is to provide recommendations for similar or better suited plantings.
COMMENT; I want to add. Replacement of trees and plantings is not a part of the routine maintenance provided under the landscape contract. Replacements are handled under separate contracts and may not be done by existing maintenance company. However the recent mulching in the parks and common areas are a part of the routine contract.
-Maintenance Issues in Southwest Greenway: Committee has requested the consultant from the Lady Bird Wildflower Center be contacted with questions regarding the massive invasion of Poverty Weed in the Southwest Greenway and specifically in the Tall Grass Prairie in the "bowl".
