Compost Thief
posted by Sol Acosta-Houston on May 27th, 2014 12:42 PM
A different kind of compost disappearance mystery. My Compost Pedallers green bucket was full so I added a paper bag with more compostable items and put them both out on my porch the day of the pick up. I peeked out my window mid-morning and the bag was gone but the bucket was still full. I thought maybe the wind blew it off --unlikely since it had the dried rinds of half a watermelon in there. I looked everywhere up and down the street and found nothing. It was too busy and too early in the day for it to be coyotes attracted by the smell. Everyone knows that the green buckets are rotting food scraps so... To the person who took my bag of compost mistaking it for something else: if you are the same person who took Christina's flower bed stakes, it serves you well!

Changes to Alliance/Time-Warner cable/internet deal?
posted by HornsFan on April 30th, 2012 4:12 PM
I called this morning and talked with Christina. Before calling I checked TWC's website and found a bundle for $89.99 (Internet, Cable, and Phone) which includes 12 months free HD-DVR service and 6 months free Turbo Charged internet. Of course, the deal is only available online and when I tried to get it ordered, I got the "your address is part of a group bundle deal" message thereby preventing me from taking advantage of this deal. I told Christina about this deal and she put me on hold but before she did, told me that they have a difficult time finding the internet only deals on their system (geez. . don't they have internet access?). She did come back on the line, told me she found what I had seen on the web, told me she could meet the monthly rate but only offer 3 months of the free HD-DVR service ($10/mo). I thanked her and told her that I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning in hopes that their system will be updated and know that I'm no longer in a bundled deal and it will let me order their $89.99 special. Here's hoping! Is there anyone who cancelled their TW internet who can tell me how long your road runner email account was active post-cancellation? My main reason for sticking with TWC is I hate the thought of updating the many accounts that I have used my email address for as well as updating my personal contacts. If there was a 6 month grace period I could probably get the changes out before the account was deactivated but Christina seemed to think it would be immediately cancelled. []

She will have some yoga mats but if you have a mat and maybe a large towel to bring that would be awesome. She is offering these classes on a donation basis, so please don't forget to donate as a way of saying thanks and please come again. The tentative schedule for classes will be Tues, Thurs 7-8am and 9-10am with a Saturday class from 9-10 as well. Please comment on the times as she is willing to work with those who want the class. Thanks!!! Looks like we will resume business tomorrow morning!
General Membership meeting minutes: 12 June 2010
posted by Betsy on June 12th, 2010 12:05 PM
The meeting was held at the picnic tables outside the pool at Ella Wooten park, where meetings will be held throughout the summer months. – We have $2300+ and are in good shape. We'll likely be able to fund another round of MNA grants this Fall so be thinking about potential requests. Check with Kerry to pay your dues if you're not current. Dues are only $10/year. – Catellus proposes changes to two areas of Mueller. These had been proposed to go to Planning Commission together but Catellus recently split them into two actions. Part of the large lot on Hermalinda will be subdivided into about 48 zero lot line homes. That went to Planning Commission last week. Catellus proposes to take two Mueller Home lots on Mattie (facing Lake Park) and re-subdivide as four custom home lots. That action has not been heard by the Planning Commission yet. – Ann Jerome gave an overview of the election process and allowed the 12 nominees to introduce themselves. There are 13 positions. Michael Adams was nominated at the meeting. Ballots were distributed and 35 ballots were received. Results will be posted on mc.com. - Ian Dietrich was introduced as the project manager for the Demonstration Project in Mueller. PSP is a consortium focused on bring renewable energy innovation to Austin. They propose to implement smart grid systems in homes for energy conservation and management. They will bring in 1000 volunteers from Mueller, with the first 100 (Group A) as early adopters. A mechanical meter will be installed in Group A homes to validate the smart meter readings and to measure baseline energy consumption for use in future comparisons. Group A participants will have first shot at later suites of products from PSP. Contact Ian at idietrich@pecanstreetproject.org to sign up. – Various groups at Mueller took the opportunity to explain their group interests to those at the meetings. Those who spoke were: - Bicycle (Michael) – Sunday coffee shop rides, monthly kids ride on Mueller trails, training and teaming for various charity rides. - Yard Sale, Block Captains, Baby Boomers (Kat) – Yard sale was successful. Block captains help collect and distribute information. Email them at blockcaptain@muellercommunity.com. Boomer Baby Social Club – sign up at mc.com. - Book Club (Melanie) – Melanie has list of books they're reading in the coming months. They meet 4th Tuesday of the month. - Mueller St*tch and B*tch (Ashley) – knitting and other sewing crafts. Meet the third Thursday of the month. - Supper Clubs (Dusty) – Groups of 4 families rotate each year. Call for those interested will be in Nov/Dec for the upcoming year. - Mueller Education Action Team (MEAT) (Meghan) – Reminder to vote in School Board runoff today. Organized around supporting East Austin schools and discussion around the future Mueller school. - Friends of the Prairie (Janelle) – Educational and social events in support of the prairie. June 21 will start monthly weed education and marking events. Christina Martin will present an overview of how the prairie came to exist, how it's maintained and threats to the prairie on June 26 from 10-12, location tbd. Watch mc.com for info. - Landscape (Joe) – Committee of residents working with POA and Catellus. A few more residents would be welcomed. Visit to Austin Tree Farm set for June 19 from 10-12. Information on Austin Wildlife Habitat Challenge posted online. - Babysitting Coop (Felicia) – Trade babysitting services and exchange information on play dates, etc. Contact Felicia if interested... more are welcome but the group uses a private web group to exchange schedules, etc. - Fourth of July events (Felicia) – organized by Resident Activities committee sponsored by Catellus. Delwood parade will end at Lake Park to join ours. Ours will start about 9:00 (or so) and come down Simond, then Mattie and circle the pool twice. Costumes encouraged! There will be games and Catellus giveaways at the pool. Felicia will post volunteer needs on mc.com. In the evening, there will be a potluck block party on Tom Miller, between Antone and Sahm, with music, etc. We'll be able to view the fireworks at Lady Bird Lake from there. - Front Porch Flyer (Drew) – Please submit articles and/or photos for inclusion. Everyone gets the Flyer but not everyone is on mc.com, so this is a great way to promote groups to the entire neighborhood. Meeting adjourned about 10:50 a.m.

March Mueller Neighborhood Assn Meeting Minutes
posted by Karen_Zab on March 15th, 2009 10:16 AM
Mueller Neighborhood Association Meeting, March 14th, 2009 DRAFT There were 34 attendees at this month’s Mueller Neighborhood Assn meeting despite the chilly weather. I. Affordable Senior Development – MNA voted last month to support the planned affordable senior development at the SE corner of Manor and Berkman. MNA submitted a letter in support of the project last month, it will be posted on MC.Com today. II. PUD Modifications. The 2008 PUD amendment has been submitted and will go to the city planning commission next month. A 3 to 4 page summary was sent out to all residents via email by Catellus. Main change was to put a whole lot more commercial and retail space in the planned town center and north of the town center. Current plan also shows a gas station near the grocery store at the corner of Berkman and 51st. Windsor Park neighborhood is in opposition to this proposed gas station. It is not a change in the PUD as the original PUD amendment did not exclude gas stations from the plan. III. AISD Performing Arts Center – Two Mueller location possibilities were submitted for a PAC in response to the RFP from AISD – one east of Mueller Blvd across from Seton, the other next to the planned elementary school. It would be in addition to the elementary school, not in lieu of it. Motion made to write a letter in opposition to the elementary school location, seconded. Discussion included confirmation there is access to the elementary school location from 51st, Manor and Zach Scott. Vote taken, 25 in favor, no opposed, 2 abstentions. Motion passed. IV. Community Supported Agriculture – Update from Christina that Hands of Earth farm CSA is a big success at Mueller – we will be their first neighborhood delivery with 35 families participing. Their shares are full for the summer season but opportunities for the winter season. Delivery will begin March 27th either at Ella Wooten Park or the Garden Court, tbd. V. Contact Team – Grant Fisher suggests we as the MNA ask city council for a contact team for Mueller. He asked the city informally and it was indicated Mueller would not be eligible for 25 to 30 years. Benefit would be mandatory inclusion in any discussion on changes to the PUD for Mueller. The team would include homeowners, renters and businesses at Mueller. Motion made and seconded to write a letter and send to City Council asking that the Mueller be assigned a contact team. Vote – 25 in favor, no opposed, 1 abstention. Motion passed. VI. Postcards – The MNA would like to print 1000 glossy two sided postcards at the cost of approx $85 with a marketing message to local business that we, residents of Mueller, would like them to locate at Mueller also. Gives some demographics for Mueller and contact info. Plan is to make them available for pickup for those interested in handing them out. Motion made to go forward with the printing, seconded. Discussion include the need to make the postcard info also available on the web so folks can download it. Vote – 24 in favor, none opposed, 1 abstention. Motion passed. VII. Other business a. Pool opening April 1st! Thanks to John Guest for representing us on the Pool Committee. b. New Members – 5 new members from ‘Upper’ Camacho are at the meeting to join. Welcome! c. Plant Fest occurring immediately after the MNA meeting today – there will be mulch for sale by the boyscouts and plants by the Maplewood students. Also a variety of talks from 11 – 1pm. Meeting Adjourned.

We add our "ditto" to Christina's recommendation regarding Mark and American Car Care Center. American Car Care Center is quite a fancy name for Mark's refurbished old gas station, but we'd trust Mark with our cars none-the-less. I won't bore you with the whole story, but Mark and his crew worked for a couple of days trying to fix a problem with one of our cars. He finally determined it was an easy fix - that they had missed. We got charged $19.95 and got an apology for taking so long. You won't find that kind of honesty almost anywhere anymore and we are now lifelong customers. Mark will tell you when he can't fix it, but he will make sure it gets fixed and will charge a fair price. We recommend him highly.
