Attendance Boundaries:
Originally, a boundary line was drawn diagonally across the former airport site. In 2009, then-superintendent Dr. Forgione redrew the boundary in relation to actual streets. (insert document AISD Boundary Adjusted to Streets)

When/if there is an elementary school at Mueller, the track is slated to continue to Pearce and Reagan. In July of 2009, Texas Education Association Commissioner Robert Scott closed Pearce Middle School due to "poor student acheivement", despite improvement on TAKS test scores at the school. In August 2009, Austin ISD, under the new leadership of Dr. Meria Carstarphen, presented a repurposing plan for Pearce. The plan was approved by Mr. Scott just 2 weeks before the start of the school year.

Mueller Education Action Team (MEAT)

For the 20 years of planning for Mueller, there was always an elementary school in the plan. Catellus has donated the land for a school. Even before anyone moved into the homes of Mueller, a small group of residents began working to promote the selection of Mueller as a site for an elementary school in the AISD 2008 Bond Program http://www.austinisd.org/inside/2004bond/complete_bond/2008index.phtml. Residents and representatives from Catellus attended AISD School Board meetings and spoke to the influx of children in the development and the concern of overcrowding the surrounding elementary schools.

At the recommendation of the Community Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) http://www.austinisd.org/inside/2004bond/cboc/index.phtml, Mueller was not named as a site on the bond, but an elementary school was left unnamed, with the site to be decided at a later date. The date for that decision has been postponed several times as the economy and the hiring of Dr. Meria Carstarphen as superintendent changed the dynamics of the decision. Austin ISD is waiting for the need for the school to be more statistically proven before committing to building it here. Other areas in AISD may have a more urgent need at this time.

Sensing urgency, the Mueller residents became more organized and formed the Mueller Education Action Team (MEAT) to not only promote the placement of a school in the Mueller Development, but to work to improve and promote the quality of the schools in the area, and to be a resource for the community in matters regarding education.

In 2012, MEAT will become a subcommittee of the Mueller Neighborhood Association (MNA) to encourage increased communication amongst the community, and to provide a more formal mode of operation.
