MNA General Membership Meeting Minutes – 12 Sept 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Frost Bank

MNA Chair, Grant Fisher, welcomed the crowd to the meeting and gave new residents a chance to introduce themselves. He also thanked Frost Bank for hosting the meeting and providing refreshments.

Jerry Perkins was introduced as our new representative to the Austin Neighborhoods Council (ANC). He will give Grant the ANC agendas to post and residents can bring issues forward to Jerry directly or though the MNA steering committee (steering@muellercommunity.com).

PIAC update – Corky Hilliard gave an update from the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport Plan Implementation Advisory Commission (RMMA PIAC or PIAC for short!) Corky discussed the membership of the PIAC and the fact that many of the current members are Mueller residents. Meetings are open and held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Two specific items of interest were discussed.

1. Corky is a member of a newly formed subcommittee looking at use of the hangar. They will have open meetings and gather neighborhood input.
2. Ashley Fisher is on a new ‘engagement’ subcommittee. We are the only neighborhood in central Austin that doesn’t have a neighborhood contact team who can address minor changes to the current neighborhood plan (zoning changes, etc.) Since we are a PUD, even minor changes are PUD changes and would involve a $5000 fee rather than a $175 fee through a contact team process. The city has rebuffed our requests for a contact team but this subcommittee will continue to pursue the issue. While this issue might not seem pressing at the moment, it will become more of a problem as the neighborhood matures.

Membership Committee – Ann Jerome chairs this group for MNA and discussed the ‘fast fact’ card they are working on for current residents and as a way to get key information to new residents. They will also be helping with plans for Mueller Night Out on October 6th, part of the National Night Out campaign (http://www.nationaltownwatch.org/nno/). Block parties/events will be planned from 6-7 p.m., followed by ice cream at Ella Wooten Park. Plan to get out and meet your neighbors.

Kat Malcolm has been recruiting volunteers to serve as block captains. Block captains are still needed for Sahm, Gochman and Garden Court #2. They will be collecting contact information that will be used only to coordinate block events, contact folks when their garage door is open, stuff like that. Hopefully most people will be willing to share their contact information.

Website update – Kevin Ludlow is the developer of http://www.muellercommunity.com (mc.com). He has now rolled out the software to several other neighborhoods and is incorporating ads onto the site. He has room for additional ads and is working on a revenue sharing plan to complement MNA’s income stream from ads in the Front Porch Flyer newsletter. Dusty Harshman is forming a focus group to help give Kevin input on desired new features for the site. Look for online discussion and contact Kevin or Dusty if you’re interested in participating. The front page of the site now lists MNA Steering Committee members and will contain more governance-type information in the future.

Steering Committee - Grant provided an update from the last Steering Committee (SC) meeting. The SC will be developing a budget for 2010 so he solicited input on what events members would like to see MNA sponsor. Ideas mentioned were:
1. Neighborhood Watch signs (and requisite program)
2. Plant fest
3. Halloween event
4. Tree trimming guidance (refer to Landscape committee – hands on event desired)

General Comments
1. Dead trees in common areas – report them to Jennifer Harvey for action
2. Crime – Vandalism in Lake Park restrooms and graffiti in several areas is a continuing problem. Call 911 if you see something suspicious in progress. Call 311 to report problems that have already occurred. Keep Jennifer Harvey in the loop too and remain vigilant!

The meeting adjourned shortly before 11:00 a.m.
