Again this year, Mueller is hosting a fun breakfast stop Friday morning, May 16 for Bike to Work Day. The station is named for beloved neighbor Michael F. Adams who helped many in the neighborhood get on their bikes for transportation and fun.
I hope you'll all stop by if you're out biking to work or school. Stop by between 7:00 - 9:30 a.m. for breakfast, beverages and to visit with other bike commuters. We'll be on the Lake Park corner of the roundabout. Windmill Bicycles will be there to provide mechanical support if needed.
Tell anyone you know biking through Mueller to swing by as well... should be a lot of fun! Citywide info at http://biketoworkaustin.org.

We'll be there from 7:00 - 9:30 and are setting up on the Lake Park corner of the roundabout. We could probably use a volunteer or two to help us break stuff down at 9:30.

Sunday social ride...leave from Ella Wooten at 8:30. It will be in the mid-50s at departure time so please dress appropriately. My idea for the destination this week is a real brunch at Moonshine on Red River. The brunch is $16.95 and here is the menu: http://www.moonshinegrill.com/menus/moonshine_brunch.pdf. If the group tomorrow morning wants to do something else that is fine too!

Thanks to a Community Transformation Grant from the City of Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services department with preventative funds from the Affordable Health Care Act, the Austin Cycling Association will be presenting City Cycling classes at five local universities during the month of September. Registration for these classes is free and open to the public.
City Cycling is a three-hour program developed by League Cycling Instructors to present basic information about riding in an urban setting. It includes techniques to avoid crashes and enjoy using a bicycle for transportation. One of the basic tenets of City Cycling is that cyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles. This course is compatible with the Texas Transportation Code and City of Austin ordinances that apply to bicycle use.
Universities taking part in the grant program include Austin Community College, St. Edwards University, and University of Texas at Austin. All of the 3-hour classes will be held in September and will accommodate approximately 30 participants each. Participants do not need a bicycle for this class. Additional on-bike training in traffic situations will be provided for up to 60 students, also in September.
Preston Tyree, Education Director for Austin Cycling Association, said, “We are excited about the opportunity provided by Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services to reach out to students and explore things that make bicycles so useful. This will be a fun class with lots of video clips and discussion. Cycling should be fun, and can be an integral part of our daily lives.”

SATURDAY morning breakfast ride to Le Cafe Crepe at 2nd & San Jacinto. Leaving from Wooten Park at 8:00 a.m.
A few folks have asked about the route I take to commute downtown, and Cafe Crepe was so good a few weeks ago, we're going to ride down Saturday and I can share my route with a Mueller friend at the same time. Will probably go in on Manor and back via Cherrywood/38.5 (some hills). If you want to join us, we'll circle Wooten Park at 8:00 to pick up riders.
I am not organizing a ride for tomorrow but interested parties should meet at 8:30 at Ella Wooten. You can decide amongst yourselves what you would like to do.
Reasonably in advance Sunday coffee ride post! Leaving Ella Wooten at 8:30 on Sunday to Le Cafe Crepe at 200 San Jacinto --> http://www.cafecrepeofaustin.com/
And continuing my string of last-minute posts...tomorrow, 8:30 AM, Ella Wooten departure.
In this corner we have Joe's Bakery on E 7th, which has achieved a whopping 4.5 out of 5 stars on Yelp http://www.joesbakery.com/
And in the other corner we have Cisco's on E 6th, which I think someone suggested last week. Although it has not acheived quite as high of a score on Yelp, it "has lines out the door." http://www.yelp.com/biz/ciscos-restaurant-bakery-and-bar-austin The people will decide tomorrow morning! The ride will be about 4 miles each way.
I already have something completely different planned for next weekend so I will try to post more than 9 hours before the ride!
Just received a request from a rider to do Sunday social/coffee/breakfast ride to Mi Madre's on Manor, leaving Ella Wooten at 8:30 --> http://www.mimadresrestaurant.com/

Great! Let's circle Wooten Park a few times at 1:00 and pick up anyone else who wants to join us, then head out. Bring some cash in case we go to Starbucks and we can see what the group is interested in. Yay! Betsy
It's going to be another beautiful day and maybe less windy. I'm thinking of riding either over to Starbucks (on the trails) or just around the 'hood about 1:00.... anyone interested?
This looks like a blast! The chance to play on 6th Street while it's closed for several hours to motorized traffic. Look at http://www.vivastreetsaustin.org/ for more info.
I will post details later but I plan to ride downtown from Mueller to attend. Would love for others to join me.
Also hoping for a Sunday afternoon ride this weekend, so if you don't go to the movie Doug mentioned, maybe you'll join me for something easy in the neighborhood.
There is a ride leaving from Mellow Johnnys at 4 this Thursday afternoon, 2/23 for the Growing the Movement Bike Summit. They will ride to the Capitol for a photo op and I plan on meeting the ride there. Not sure what the route is from there but the website says it will be a 20 mi. social ride. See the links in my previous post (below) for more info.
Joe & I will circle Wooten park at 2:00 pm and then head down to the trail and over to Starbucks. If you're able to join us, jump in as we circle the park. Weather forecast is cloudy and cool (about 47 deg).
Can't make it out this weekend bc family will be in town for one of my children's birthdays but look forward to joining or suggesting a ride in the future.
Yay... our group is growing! I hope y'all will post to the group when you want some company for a ride. Don't wait for me to organize things!
I am really hoping we'll attract some folks who haven't been on their bikes in years and likely need some encouragement. I was thinking about a beginner ride this weekend - maybe to Starbucks via the Mueller trails about 2:00 on Sunday, if the weather is decent. We could visit over coffee about future rides. What do y'all think?
Love to get and ride early Saturday and Sunday mornings - little traffic, especially Sundays. Downtown is lovely Sunday mornings - cyclists own the road!
