Description: |
The Mueller Disc Golf Club is open to discgolfers of all ages and abilities. If we have a critical mass of players we can organize rounds of disc golf, perhaps a regular weekly game at nearby Bart, or pick-up games. If you have always wanted to play, join us and we can help you learn how.
Disc golf is a nice relaxing sport, but you actually do get a little exercise playing (at least a several mile walk). My 65-yr old dad plays regularly, as does my 16-yr old niece. We also co-own Sand Hill, the only totally free private disc golf course in central Texas, located about an hour south of here. But you don't need to own a course to join!
Disc golf is equal or superior to ball golf in almost every way that matters. It requires a small fraction of the land (a fifth or less), needs no fertilizers, no lawn watering whatsoever, and very little mowing or other maintenance. Furthermore, it is cheap (usually free) to play, and the equipment (disc) can be had for less than $10. And as near as I can tell, none of the current PDGA tour champions/role models are philanderers seeking treatment for 'sex addiction.'
We are lucky to have a good disc golf course within a mile of most of the community: Bartholomew park (aka, Bart), the oldest permanent disc golf course in town (early 80s). This course will soon get a desperately needed facelift from the City: concrete tee pads, and they will hopefully bring back the 3 missing holes so it is 18 again! |

Public Meeting on Bart -- Need input from Discgolfers |

Hey Mueller disc golf group,
The public input meeting on the Bartholomew park master plan is today, Wednesday, June 23rd, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Its at the Dottie Jordan Recreation Center, 2803 Loyola Lane.
It would be useful to have discgolfers or friends of the sport attend this meeting to support the continuation of disc golf among the mix of recreational activities to be included in the master plan for Bart.
I know that some people want a leash-free dog park at Bart, and Catellus wants a trail going through the park. These are definitely good uses of the park, provided the plan is designed to minimize interference between the users. The disc golf course can be redesigned to accommodate a trail and reduce the chances of hitting pedestrians. Loose dogs will be better protected from flying discs if they have a fenced-off section, but it might also be possible to devote one end of the 57-acre park to our canine pals. If done properly they can all coexist.
I will be at the meeting, and I know that many waterloo Disc Golf Club members will be there too. But it helps to have the support of local players, too, and there aren't many people more local than Mueller discgolfers!
Thanks,
Daniel |

Nice to see so much interest in disc golf in Mueller!
To get this started I suggest we introduce ourselves disc golf-wise, including our experience level and/or how/when/where we like to play. I'll go first:
I'm trying to play disc golf in all 50 states, and right now I'm on 33! I've been playing for more years than I've not been playing, but I'm not nearly as good as I could be. Having a good time is way more important than winning!
My favorite courses are Bart and Pease for their convenience, and Circle, Manor, Sand Hill, or any course designed by John Houck for their play.
I like to play on Friday afternoons because my work hours are somewhat flexible, but I can also play weekends or other weeknights with advance planning. |
