Name: Mueller Wineauxs (Wine Not?)

Description: From Champagne to Port
Chianti to Merlot
Our Mueller Wine Club is the way to go.
So if you enjoy a glass of red, white and/or bubbles
The newly forming Mueller Wineauxs will be the place for you to forget all of life's little troubles.

To kick off our wine group, I am working with the manager at Mosaic and my friend, Jane Nickles who is a Master Sommelier and wine educator at TCA. The date of our first event will likely be Sunday, August 30th and will include an introductory class on food and wine pairing. As soon as I firm up the details, I will post an evite.

Upcoming event ideas:
Austin wine bar tour/crawl
Blind wine tastings
Wine Festivals
Trip to the Texas Wine Country

When it comes to wine, there is no limit to what we can do in and around the Austin area.

Drink Pink!

The dog days of summer will be here before we know it. To get prepared, we are going to have a blind Rosé wine tasting. Rosé wine provides a perfect backdrop to lighter fare associated with summertime dining. Unfortunately, Rosés have gotten a bad rap as being super sweet; however, a true Rosé is often off-dry to dry in nature and displays appropriate fresh fruit flavors that lean toward the strawberry and raspberry side of the fruit spectrum.

When: Saturday, April 2nd 7:30 PM
Where: 4001 Mendez St.- home of Betsy Hilton and Joe Denton where we will sip Rosés amongst the roses.

What to bring: 1 bottle of Rosé per person in attendance
RSVP is mandatory: Marge Bailey (mabailey2@yahoo.com or 791-0976)
When you RSVP, I will assign you a wine to bring with a price range under $15.

Light appetizers will be provided by Dream Dinners.

When: Saturday, April 5th 4-6 PM
Where: 4001 Mendez St.- home of Betsy Hilton and Joe Denton

Well, Streat postponed their Grand Opening due to ACL. However, there are plenty of wine activites around Austin and the Hill Country in October.

Here is just a sampling of some that Brian and I will be attending:

First Cold Day of Fall Wine Tasting with Michael Vilim (also owns Streat-hope to get the new date for their Grand Opening), Thurs, Oct 14th, 6:30 pm. $40 (inclusive of tip/tax) 346-7900
One of Michael's annual events, the First Cold Day of Fall, is a chance to taste some big, fabulous wines gathered through the warm months and now begs its cork pulled to determine if they are ready to serve. Michael used to do this all by himself and ended up somewhat poorer and considerably hung over. He invites all of you to help him keep to the straight and narrow, as much as he possibly can. The First Cold Day of Fall tasting is also a lesson in aging wine, because we will look at why a wine is ready or needs more time to be enjoyed at its potential. These are some of the great wines of the world and to purchase the entire set would cost about $900. Of course, two highlights are the very special 2005 Araujo Eisele Vyd. Cabernet, which Parker has said is the best wine of the 2005 vintage in California. Also, the tasting features the 2007 Vieux Telegraph, perhaps the best Chateauneuf made at the estate in a decade. With appetizers. Limited Seating.

Wines to be Tasted:
(NV) Champagne, LaCombe Ay 90 points WS
2007 Petalos del Bierzo, Spain (100% Mencia) 92 Points, Robert Parker
2008 Beaux Freres “The Beaux Freres Vineyard” Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley) 94 Tanzer
2004 Terra Rossa Brunello di Montalcino 90 points, Robert Parker
2006 Selene “Frediani Vyd.” Merlot Napa Valley 91 points WS
2005 Araujo Eisele Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 98( ) points Parker
2007 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve WA Unrated
The 2005 was Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year—2007 was just released)
2007 Anderson Conn Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 93-95 points Robert Parker
2007 Vieux Telegraph Chateauneuf du Pape 96 points, Robert Parker
2007 El Nido Clio Jumilla 94 Parker

Marge,
Thanks again for organizing the great evening at Pharra's. John and I had a wonderful time...the wine, food and conversations were so much fun...at least the parts I remember.

The evening at Pharra's was stellar. Thanks to Marge for organizing and to everybody for coming and having a great time.

Pharra's benefit for medically challenged young people is in July -- exact date to be determined -- and I hope we can all go back then and take additional Mueller wineaux and friends!

Hey Mueller Wineauxs...

How about a night of Bubbles, Bordeaux, Beer, or any other beverage of your choosing? I am working with Phara's Mediterranean Restaurant located at 111 E N Loop. Mark your calendars for April 28th at 7PM. We will enjoy a wonderful Mediterranean buffet, belly dancing, and best of all, we can BYOB! I am firming up the price of an all-inclusive dinner package (buffet, tax, corkage fee and gratuity). I am also working on getting a discounted price on selected wines purchased at our Hancock Center Twin Liquors that will compliment our dinner.

Please let me know if you are interested in attending. I should have a price (I figure it will be around $25/pp depending on how many Muellerites attend) by the end of the week and will post the details as soon as I hear back from Phara, herself.

Cheers!
