The 2001 UT Summer Institute: Activating Learning through the Arts

The purpose of this class is to give you the tools you need to encourage students of all ages to be personally invested in their own education, build classroom community, and enjoy learning! Through simple but powerful drama-based strategies, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in classroom management and facilitating collaborative learning.

The Institute meets with a UT course: Drama-based Pedagogy and Practice and is taught by UT faculty and graduate students from the College of Fine Arts and Education. This is a GREAT opportunity to work with a wide variety of teachers and practitioners.

2011 Summer Institute: Activating Learning through the Arts

Institute Meets: July 11 – July 29, Mon. – Thurs.

Time: 9 am to 4 pm

2011 Summer Institute is co-taught by faculty and graduate students from the Department of Theatre and Dance and the College of Education. The course provides an opportunity for UT students and working professionals from across the country to gather and explore the power of learning in and through the arts.
During the course, participants will:
* work in professional learning communities;
* explore drama-based instructional strategies;
* reflect on pedagogical readings;
* develop and refine new arts integrated curricula and assessment strategies;
* and, observe and facilitate lesson plans with colleagues and local young people.

The course concludes with the sharing of multiple drama-based lesson plans for peer and faculty review. Ongoing support for participants is provided after the class through web-based resources and a virtual professional development community. TEA approved Professional Development credit hours are awarded at the conclusion of the Institute.
