Hi Mueller Neighbors!

Your Mueller Neighborhood Association (MNA) would like to introduce our new website, located at muellerneighborhood.org. We are excited to offer this one-stop page for all news and information related to our neighborhood and the Mueller Development. From here you can access the Mueller Facebook page, the Mueller Nextdoor forum site, and find links to important and relevant information for new and existing residents.

In addition to the new MNA page, we will be replacing CitiCite with NextDoor as our official forum for MNA news and information. This will take effect August 1st, 2014. NextDoor is a neighborhood forum site that has many advantages:

1. Nextdoor is the private social network for you and your neighbors and community. It's an easy way for you and your neighbors to talk online and make all of your lives better in the real world. And it's free! Hundreds of our neighbors are already using Nextdoor to build happier, safer places to call home.

2. Membership is verified. You can trust that those on the site are your neighbors here at Mueller. In other words, only those signed up within Mueller, and those from adjoining neighborhoods if you so desire, can see and respond to posts.

3. NextDoor has been adopted by the City of Austin as the official link to neighborhoods for the dissemination of important information, including those originating from the Police Department.

We hope you enjoy the new website. Our goal is to simplify your need for information about our community on the web. For feedback on the site or if you have questions, please navigate to the About MNA tab on the new website to find a link to e-mail the MNA.

Happy 4th of July!

Your Mueller Neighborhood Association

Interesting ... is muellercommunity.com (i.e., this site, powered by citicite) going to be discontinued? If so, are there plans to migrate legacy forum posts over?

I'm asking because often, a search through historical muellercommunity posts is very helpful in locating information.

Hi Henning.

No, Mueller Community is not going to be discontinued. MuellerCommunity.com is alive and well and there is still development under way on it.

While I am certainly all for change and progress, I am disappointed that there is an ongoing effort to eradicate one system while using that very system to promote something different.

Additionally, I was told the other day by a member of the Neighborhood Association that there is no intention to replace MuellerCommunity.com. However, having visited the proposed site, it's confusing as to why a link to every mechanism of communication would be provided on there except for citiCite.

So I do want to make a few official comments about this service.

As many of you know, this website started in 2007 as a mechanism to share information about the Mueller Pioneer process. That process was confusing to many people and a number of issues had arisen with certain builders. I was under contract myself (on Sahm), but after seeing how David Weekly pulled a bait-and-switch on the property price and after seeing how a better Meritage home was $70,000 cheaper, I pulled out of that deal. The site however grew and I spent a great deal of time working with new residents.

Since that genesis it grew to about 6,000 users and over 40,000 user-submitted posts. The server infrastructure costs about $5,200 per year and I've personally taken on that cost. The small advertisements on the side have paid back some of it, but far from all of it.

Between 2008 and 2011 I participated in most MNA meetings, many steering committee meetings, and even served on the RMMA PIAC (Mueller Commission) as a city commissioner (often going door to door with flyers to get new residents into the conversation).

And at present time am running a campaign for Texas State House in east Austin (of which Mueller falls into).

So while I am all for new ideas coming into play, new competition, and an entirely open market, I find it disappointing that there is a current effort to discredit the last 7 years of this effort by simply pretending that this site does not exist.

Furthermore, I would ask that those of you who have helped grow this online discussion and otherwise support these effort to reach out to the MNA and encourage them to at least provide a link to this forum on their new system.

I am absolutely all for the residents of Mueller freely determining which system best suits them, but it seems rather surprising to undermine the efforts of a local entrepreneur and public servant in favor of 2 or 3 of the largest data-mining corporations in the world (Facebook being one of those operations).

Thank you very much.

I checked out the new Next Door thing, and I find it underwhelming. Besides, with Facebook groups and Yahoo groups and Google groups and Austin Mueller Online and the OG CC, why do I need yet another social networking website to deal with? It's ugly and clunky and I've already deactivated my account. I don't know what makes it so special. And it doesn't even work. My very first post doesn't show up. My profile said I made a post, but it was nowhere to be found. On Kevin's site, not only did it post all my posts, it posted them twice! I'm going to stay with CC because of it's history. Not just it's history with the neighborhood, but I can look back at old stuff which I find useful.

From what I've seen so far, as a neighborhood-oriented Facebook clone Nextdoor is a decent implementation.

However, I share your concern about fragmentation - depending on how you look at it, we either have three clans in our neighborhood (the Facebookers, Citiciters and Nextdoors) that don't talk to each other, or we have the situation where, if you want to ask a question or make an announcement, you have to post on 3 different social media sites.

And citicite was there first.

The two things I do like about ND is accountability and seclusion. We would have fewer trolls.
