Help! Exterior outlets not working
by austinbaileys on October 9th, 2011

The outlets on our front and back porches have stopped working. They are GFCI (GFI) protected. I've checked all of the GFCI reset buttons I can find (Master bath, garage, kitchen, kitchen island and laundry room). None of them have been tripped. I reset them anyway to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We have had that problem from time to time and I found the main reset was on the GFI plug in our garage near our main breaker panel. You might check there as well.

Joe,

You are correct that in the Streetman homes, the reset is on the GFI plug in the garage. It actually controls all of the external outlets (front porch, patio, etc.). Dave, ours external outlets have gone out when setting up holiday lighting and Dennis first problem-solved this for me.

As far as the garage door goes, you can use the manual pull to disengage from the track as Joe mentions, but be careful that the door is not out of alignment for the spring coil mechanism is very dangerous if it fails. You are best off calling someone to repair it. We have used Cornell Garage Doors @ 512-636-3498.

Larry,
Thanks so much for the info. We have someone coming out to look at the garage tomorrow.

Unfortunately we haven't found a solution for the outlet. The CFI reset button in the garage has been reset, but the porch outlets are still not working. Looks like we need to have an electrician come out for a shorted out switch anyway. We'll have him take a look at the problem.

I feel like the whole house is falling apart.
