Suzuki Grand Vitaro License 942 YJG - Abandoned?!
by annjerome on July 27th, 2010

There has been a navy blue Suzuki CUV parked on the east corner of Emma Long and Camacho for the past two weeks. It does not belong to the home owners who live closest to it and it appears to have been abandoned as it has not moved at all in the two weeks.

Does anyone know who it belongs to? I plan to call 311 tomorrow to start the process of having it removed from the street.

Thanks for your help!

Good luck. There was an abandoned car on Zach Scott for *months* and repeated calls to 311 got no action. The city says they won't do anything unless the car is obviously disabled to the extent that it can't move on its own. It was leaking copious oil into the street, had a broken windshield and headlight, and one tire that slowly deflated until it was totally flat. Finally got hauled away just before Parade of Homes last year.

I remember that. Who could forget? We even left notes under the windshield, to no effect. Those oil stains are still there.

Ann, if you discover a secret to getting Austin to take abandoned cars seriously, do let us know!

When I lived in the South Bronx there was a car parked out in front of my apartment block for weeks. Everyday more and more parts disappeared. Finally, after someone set it ablaze, NYPD towed it. So, maybe a little A&M bonfire might get some action out of the APD.

Please be kind to your neighbors. We have been residents of Mueller for over a year. I have been studying intensely for the TX Bar exam these past few weeks, so I have not been driving my car regularly. It is in great working condition. Our landlord has approved one parking space for my husband, so I legally park my car on the street. I was upset that my front tire was flat today after returning from a well deserved vacation. My husband had to replace the tire late tonite, in the heat, after a long difficult day of work. I was given a tip by a neighbor that my car has caused quite a stir these past few weeks on the Mueller neighborhood blog. This was my first time on the site. I am very disappointed that some people are wasting their time worrying about my car instead of the state of the world in general. I can't believe my fellow neighbors are giving tips on how to get a car to look "abandoned" so it can get towed by the City! I have just filed a police report for the violation of TX Penal Code Section 28.03 Criminal Mischief. I hope this will prevent anyone in the future from deliberately damaging other parked cars in the Mueller community simply because it doesn't look the part.

Wow, filing a police report is pretty extreme. Are you sure your tire didn't go flat on its own? I find it amusing that you assume the worst in people (someone flattened your tire) while getting indignant that others assumed the worst about your car being abandoned.

As Ann points out in her original post, you left your car not in front of your own house, but in front of your neighbors'. For a long time. She tried to find the owner but couldn't. So she concluded it was abandoned. Seems reasonable to me.

For the record: I have no idea where this little dust up is actually occurring and don't know any individuals involved. But we did have an abandoned vehicle parked in front of our place for 4-5 months and it sucked. I don't blame people for being concerned.

Hey Synthia,

I just saw this thread. Looks to me like it originally started as a reasonable query for information but as can happen on online boards the topic can quickly changed to recounting everyone's worst experience on the topic.

I wouldn't take it too personally. One of our neighbors, who we like just fine, tends to have a lot of guests who park their cars as well as the "band bus" out in front of our house. You're more than welcome to bring your Suzuki over to join the party.

I can promise you that there will be no complaints and we'll keep an eye on it for you.

The car in question was parked in a neighborly fashion. It was not parked in "front" of anyone's house. It was parked on the side of a corner house, close to the curb and facing the proper direction.

I drove by this car everyday for a few weeks and then one day a tire was flat. If it was a slow leak, then it would have gone down over time and not overnight.

This is not my car, nor do I know the owner of the car.
