The following is excerpted from an email Charlie sent out today (4/11/11) to the Republic Square partners email list:

...There's LOTS of things going on in our downtown parks - especially - Republic Square. Here's a few highlights:

1) The Farmer's Market continues on Saturday mornings and they continue to be a big event. We have brought out the Imagination Playground on two Saturdays now and pending scheduling, we hope to bring it out on a regular basis. It's a huge hit with parents and kids alike. We'll also have a smaller portion of it out for our upcoming Movie nights.

2) Yoga in the Park continues this Wednesday and indeed Wednesdays at noon through April. We had 96 people attend our first class last week. that's about double the number from previous years. Join YogaYoga at noon with your yoga mat (they also have a small number to lend)

3) Movies at Republic Square kick off this week with SpyKids - Wed, April 13th! We'll have our imagination playground out as well. Movies begin at dusk and are free. Our thanks to our sponsors including Amplify Credit Union, the Downtown Austin Alliance, the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Dept, the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division and the Alamo Drafthouse. Next up on April 27th is Casablanca!

Here's a few other items of note:

4) PARD staff aerated the south and west lawns a week or so back to get a little more air and less compaction going. This should help the grass. Think more rain - next chance is Thursday!

5) Two trees on the east side - one transplant and one tree we planted during Phase 1a of improvements (along Guadalupe) have died and are in the process of being removed.

6) Daniel continues to lead weeding days at Republic Square. The next workday will be Saturday, May 14th.

And finally, it's great to see the Courthouse continue to take shape. as our new neighbor to the west of the Square. The stone work is looking pretty neat.

There are a couple of fascinating points with time in this article but I don’t determine if they all center to heart.
