I'll second (or third or fourth) the Moontower idea. Anybody on this thread with City Hall connections? Anybody?

I contacted Catellus this afternoon via MuellerAustin.com and received a reply.

Thank you for sending this information. I'm not aware of any internal discussions regarding the moon towers so I'm going to pass this along to the team. We'll be sure to let you know if we could use any help!

Best regards,
Jessica (Reynolds)

I think this calls for a movement.

Thanks...If Catellus sees enough enthusiasm for the idea they may embrace it and discuss feasibility with the city.

Makes me wonder what happened to the other 14 or so towers that were apparently taken down over the years...is there some boneyard of old moonlight towers the city has somewhere?

This would be great if they are going to turn off the street lights. There is already enough/to much lighting in the neighborhood. Do we need more?

While we don't need more light, the soft glow from a moonlight tower would be preferable to the beams of light directed in our master bedroom window from the street lamp.

Understand the concern. But I think the idea would be to locate a moonlight tower perhaps as a gateway between Lake Park and Aldrich Street. It would illuminate the commercial district (I assume there is no problem with this) and the park (which badly needs illumination) and provide a cool landmark to anchor the Town Center, but would not impact the neighborhood other than to provide another pretty lighted tower in the distance for people to look at. A place we can all point to when people ask where's Aldrich Street (or whatever the name ends up being).

Of course as a complete preliminary matter, all this is depended on whether this City has plans to put up the existing moonlight towers or not. Then, obviously Catellus would have to be on-board as well. But I think it's a cool idea and worth looking into.

From Catellus: "We found out the two “available” moon towers are actually already committed. We have also learned there are some structural issues with the towers that may influence what could occur if one were to become available.
We continue the explore the possibility....."

Danx thanks for following up on this!!

According to the Wiki page a replica tower was created for the Zilker Christmas
Tree. Eventually the replica was replaced with a real moonlight tower. I wonder if the replica still exists... or if another replica could be made.. hmmm

We may also want to brainstorm on some other/additional ideas that would help identify town center/Aldrich St. as uniquely Austin.
