Is there anyone out there that can help me understand cost of ownership on a three year lease? Of course it will vary based on options you choose but let's say for simplicity you agree with the dealer that the car is $40K. What is it going to cost - I think it is the $350 taxes on the full purchase value of the car spread out over the lease, i.e.

$350 (40000*.0625)/36=$423/mo

Plus of course the upfront dreaded dealer fees (?), title fees ($65?), anything else (?) - what is actual cost over the three years? If anyone can help unmuddy the waters I would really appreciate it! We would really like to help out the PSP research but need a full understanding of TCO.

Just wanted to share that we ordered a Volt from Covert Bastrop. We think we got a really good deal and had great customer service with Rafael. Call him at 512-589-7540.

Went in to Henna today and picked one up. Buddy Brown was easy and pleasant to deal with. I did spring for a 75,000 mile warranty, given the new technology (don't usually do that, but was happy I bought one for the Mercury Mystique, er, Mistake I bought back in '95)....

Is there anyone out there who can confirm my understanding of how the taxes are handled on a lease?

The answer is yes on a lease you have to pay taxes on: (Agreed Volt Value minus Trade-In Value) * .0625.

I just wanted to add that I was at the gym last night and saw a couple of Leafs and a couple of Volts. I love it!

I contacted both Henna and Covert Bastrop. Both say they will give a discount based on the MSRP and invoice price. However, they also both add an "advertising" fee on top of GM's dealer invoice price as shown from Edmunds or a dealer order.
Has everyone been seeing this increase to the invoice price before the deal is made?

Those are legitimate fees that the dealership has to pay. Almost every Chevy dealer takes part in these advertising groups and has to pay a fee on each vehicle sold. A few remote/rural dealerships choose to handle their own advertising and those fees will not show on their invoice but they still have some out of pocket for advertising it's just bundled into overhead which is not shown on the invoice. Rule of thumb is that if the fee is shown on an invoice it's legit. If it shows up on other sales paperwork it is a dealer add on.

Yes, that Fox News - There is also a link to a video from 2010 that is interesting.

Here is Mitt saying the government should be telling the American people what to drive instead, it shouldn't make electric car. Then what choice do we have, Mitt?
