Nest thermostat in David Weekly home

Hey Neighbors..We want to install Nest thermostat in our David Weekly home but it looks like because of the way the controller of our air conditioning system has been configured we will not be able to do so without professional help. Are there any David Weekly home owners who have installed Nest in your home? If so did you face the same issue and how did you solving it?

Thanks
Sabari

I had Strand Brothers come out and install it in my Standard Pacific home. I think they charged me like $50 for the part & install and I bought the Nest from them directly. Took about 30 min, and works perfectly.

Hi Sabari,

I installed a nest in our home on Ruiz, but it's Standard Pacific. It works like a charm. I can come over and see if the wiring is the same as we have and give you a hand.

Billk,

I also live in a Stan Pac with a Honeywell VisionPro IAQ Thermostat.
I've checked the compatibility on Nest's website a few times but the options don't seem to correspond at all to the wires in my mounting plate.

I've attached a picture. The mounting plate is labeled 1, 2, 3 for the red, white and blue wires respectively. Is this similar to your installation?

I'm been hoping to install Nest for a long while but have basically given up. Sounds like a gave up too easily if you and Carlo both have it installed.

Tony,

The wiring is not the same as ours. Do you have a heat pump? If so, not sure about that set-up. We have a gas furnace for heat.

With that said, I'm thinking the nest should work with just about every system out there. Heat pumps are not rare by any means, if that is in fact what you have.

Their web site has a pretty good support area that includes wiring issues.

That looks like the same wiring as my two story Stan Pac house with a Honeywell zone controller. The "EnviraZone" controller in the attic uses a proprietary Honeywell signaling system over those three wires, which only works with "VisonPRO IAQ" thermostats.

When I checked on the Nest a while back, it is not compatible with this system. To install a Nest, the zone controller in the attic would also have to be replaced with one based on the widely used 5 wire system for thermostats.

Thanks for the reply Charles and Billk. We have a regular gas furnace. Odd that stanpac would install different HVAC controller configurations from given that our homes are so similar.

Charles - sounds like you've got a good handle on the required change. Have you done this in your home? Any AC company recommendations to do the work?

No, after finding out that the zone controller would have to be replaced, I didn't proceed any further. -Charles
