The new school year is an exciting time for teachers and students. Blanton teachers and staff have been very busy preparing for the first day of school for several weeks during the dog days of summer. This year, we have a new dismissal plan. To lessen the traffic congestion on Westminster during dismissal and to minimize the number of students crossing Westminster, the majority of dismissal pick up traffic has been moved to Blanton Drive behind the school. Please check out our website at http://blantonelementary.weebly.com/ for more information about our new dismissal plan.
Blanton's Campus Advisory Council will meet on the second Thursday of each month at 3:15. The Campus Advisory Council is a group of teachers, staff, parents, and community members who provide input to the principal about campus decisions. The meetings are held in the school library and are open to the public. If you would like to submit an item to the agenda, please contact the principal, John Baker, at john.baker@austinisd.org at least 48 hours before a scheduled meeting.
If you have any concerns about the school as a parent or a community member, please contact the principal at the email above.
Would you like to make a difference in your community? You can by becoming a volunteer Classroom Coach at Blanton. Help neighborhood students build a strong foundation for literacy each week through our partnership with Austin Partners in Education. APIE’s Classroom Coaching program is part tutoring and part mentoring. Volunteers support second grade students by helping them to improve their reading skills in English or Spanish. Our program success is due entirely to caring and consistent volunteers who receive training through our program about how to support the students. Classroom Coaches provide the weekly individualized attention crucial to student achievement. Why second grade? Research shows that students who read on grade level by third grade are more likely to graduate high school.

The Blanton Bobcats need your support so we may buy new music risers for our music program! Our current risers are 25 years old. Our scholars stand on the risers during music class, as well as performances. Risers enable our students to take direction from Mr. Domasco, our awesome music teacher. They're an essential element to creating music and singing!

Blanton will be hosting a Winter Fest on the evening of December 13th, 2013 from 5:30 pm-8pm in order to raise money to buy 5 new risers. Come hear our K-2nd grade Bobcats sing, drink some hot chocolate, and get a photo with Santa! We'll also have pizza, snacks, and baked goods for sale. It will be a fun holiday party! Blanton scholars, their families, and the entire community are invited to listen to Christmas music outside at Blanton! In the event of inclement weather, the program will be inside.

Blanton will hold an orientation session for prospective kindergarten parents on January 16th at 9:00 am. We will do a tour of the building, discuss general registration information, and information about applying to the Dual Language program and regular enrollment for those who are interested. There will be some other dates when we will provide school tours for interested parents. Those dates will be January 23, January 30, and February 6 at 9:00 each day. Blanton has also applied to offer tuition based Pre K for students who do not meet Pre K enrollment guidelines. More information about this will be forthcoming at a later date.

The Blanton Gardening Committee is working to beautify the Blanton grounds and create spaces for learning about nature, ecology, all types of organisms, and nutrition for our students. If you are interested in helping out in the Blanton gardens, please contact amanda.mortl@gmail.com.

Are you interested in having your child become bilingual (Spanish-English) while also receiving an excellent education in a wonderful public school community? Then perhaps you should check out Blanton Elementary School (home of the Bobcats). Blanton will hold an orientation session for prospective kindergarten parents on Thursday, January 16th at 9:00 am. There will be a tour of the building as well as a discussion about registration information and what you need to know to apply to the Dual Language Program. Principal John Baker and other school personnel will be in attendance to provide information and answer questions. Also, parents of current students in Blanton's Dual Language Program will be there for a short Q & A session to share their experiences and field questions.

Additional dates of school tours for interested parents include: January 23, January 30, and February 6 at 9:00 am each day.
