Just a poll - homeschoolers?
by Sarah L on February 3rd, 2011

This is just meant to be a poll, to satisfy my own curiosity, and not to start any group or activities (though not closed to the idea!) nor debate on the subject matter, are there/how many homeschooling families are here in Mueller? Regardless of the philosophy, method, part or full time, or have intention to in the near future, etc.

hmm?? Thanks.

Hi Sarah, I homeschool my 3 daughters 11, 8 and 5. We participate in an academic co-op one day a week and a variety of other activities/classes throughout the week. Off the top of my head, I know of 3 other families who homeschool here in Mueller, there may be more. PM me if you have any questions I can help you out with. This is my first year to homeschool and I have found that Austin has a quite large, very diverse community of homeschoolers.

We are planning on homeschooling our 2 girls (3 yo and 5 mo). I'd love to meet other homeschooling families as well.

Cheryl,
It's good to hear about other families in the community who I can tap into for info. My gut feeling is we might not end up doing it, but it's definitely an option that I do not want to overlook. I will definitely contact you for info in the near future. Thanks.

Marisa, looks like there are a good number here in Mueller!

Sarah, we homeschool our 11.5 yo-6th grade and 10 yo-4th grade and plan to in the future the 2 yo, who is just too busy for us right now! ;) We are into our second year, so we are still "novices". We have been so blessed and challenged by homeschooling, it is a journey not only for the children but for us as parents too. I have learned so much. We are using the classical model of homeschooling, but with variations! We use a variety of curriculums, attend a co-op once a week for art and gym, and are involved in a variety of other activities. There are a few other HS families in the neighborhood and it would be neat to see us all come together for some activities in the future. I would love to chat or have a cup of coffee to talk about HSing if you are thinking about it, just PM me. Grace and peace as you wonder! Deeann

Hi all!
I live just north of Mueller in Windsor Park.
I am a private art teacher and have worked with several home school groups before. I'd love to see if any of you want to start a small home school group for an art class. Maybe not this semester, as I'm sure you have all your subjects in place already, but maybe for the fall.
I'm actively working on my website these days, so you'll see some quirky stuff for a while, while my web designer and I are conversing and changing things, but check it out anyway: http://www.lzmstudio.com

I'd be happy to put something together for a small group of kids, based on art history, world/social studies or just material based exploration of art. I have a kiln and can create ceramics with your kids, or mosaics (good for ages 4 and up), or teach them realistic drawing (above the age of 8 yrs. old).

We can meet once weekly at one of your homes or I have a small vintage camper that I use as my studio at my home, and can fit 3-4 small students at one time, or 2 older kids.

Rates vary based on the size of the group and materials used, but I'd be happy to structure something that meets your needs and budgets.
Feel free to pass on this info to anyone you think would be interested, or be in touch anytime!
Cheers,
Laurie Mann
