by danx111 on July 21st, 2009

Has anyone asked Catellus about this? The POA is responsible to The Board which is controlled by Catellus

Texas Solar Power offer - Row homes?
by Shanda Sansing on July 21st, 2009

Hi Ezra, Bullcreek, Siebrise and others,
As you've already noted, POA managed row homes are very different than regular residential projects. First of all, it would have to be submitted to Austin Energy as a commercial project. Some pro's: opportunity for a larger system (commercial cap is bigger); POA owns system so gets accelerated depreciation on equipment purchase. One con (at least): would need to be a group decision. Idea: Does the POA meet regularly? Could have our general manager, Mark Rangel (who is also in charge of commercial projects) give a presentation to the board and interested homeowners - review the financial/environmental impacts/benefits, ask questions, generally flesh it out. If that sounds interesting, contact Mark at MARKTXSPC.COM

PS I am trying to delicately walk the line between responding to requests for information and advertising. I wouldn't want regular "sales" posts on my neighborhood listserve (Windsor Park) and I'm sure y'all don't want that either. I sincerely apologize if this conversation annoys any Muellerites. Very definitely not the goal...

Next Mueller Solar Meeting on Thursday
by langhugh on July 21st, 2009

The Mueller Solar Summer continues. On Thursday, we'll meet with two local solar vendors who have been active in answering our questions, Solar Communities and Celestial Power. Don't worry if you haven't been to previous meetings. Come on out if you have an interest.

This meeting will once again be at the Sears casa at 1929 Antone from 6:00-pm to 8:00pm. We'll also have a Mueller residents meeting after the presentations to discuss the finances of purchasing solar energy. http://www.muellercommunity.com/index.php?module=Events&op=view&EventID=214

Light Refreshments will be served.

Solar powered attic fans...comments?

Solar Powered Attic Fan

Neighbor mentioned this to me, we are trying to learn more. I wonder how useful they are...whether passive system in place now is working or not, etc. (I don't know.)

I asked SP about this months ago and they advised against it. Our SolarBoard keeps 97% of heat out and they felt the fan would just suck out cold air.

We likely will install an attic fan for our garage attic. The garage is detached from the house and has no insulation, so when it's 100 degrees outside, it's 100 degrees in the garage and stiflingly still. It seems like it can't hurt to try pulling some of that heat out through the roof.

Do you have enough soffit vents to allow cooler air to enter your garage? I know that we don't in our DW home (though our garage is attached)

We seem to have lucked out on that front and have soffit vents on most sides.
