Ella Wooten Park and Swim Center
by lkunz on June 12th, 2008

We are pleased to announce that the Ella Wooten Swim Center will open for regular operations on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 1:00 PM.

Ella Wooten Park

As is fitting for a community built in partnership with the city and people of Austin, Mueller’s high-quality parks, trails and recreational facilities enhance the quality of life of both our residents and our neighbors.

Swim Center Operations 2008 Season: 6/17 – 8/24/08 and 8/30 – 9/1/08 (see hours below)

The pool at Ella Wooten Park is open for recreational swimming in the afternoons for residents and neighbors alike at times consistent with similar Austin neighborhood pools in the area. We’ve developed an operations plan that allows us to serve the community and meet state regulations to ensure safety.

Swim Center Entry

For initial entry all adult patrons must sign a Pool Use Agreement and Release. Children under 18 years of age must have their release signed by a parent or guardian. Release forms will be valid for the calendar year.

Patrons will be issued a card indicating they have a release on file.

Age of Supervision

Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by someone 15 years of age or older. This person must remain inside the fenced pool area with the children. This applies at all times the pool is open.

Swimming Schedule

OPEN SWIM: Tuesday – Sunday 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Lifeguards on duty. Meets State requirements for use by resident patrons and non-resident patrons. All patrons must leave the pool area before and after Open Swim times (between noon and 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM) due to opening and closing procedures.

During Open Swim the registration desk will be manned. All swim center patrons must sign in at the desk, show their release card and identification.

RESIDENT SWIM: Tuesday – Sunday 7:00 AM – Noon; 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM

No lifeguard supervision. State requirements limit use to resident patrons.

SWIM CENTER IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS.

Swim Passes

OPEN SWIM day passes are available to non-resident patrons at the registration desk during Open Swim hours as follows:

Day Pass Fees: Adult – $3.00; Junior (12-17) – $2.00; Child (11 & Under) and Senior – $1.00

Season Pass Fees: Adult – $180.00; Junior – $120.00; Child and Senior – $60.00; Family (max 4 members) – $350.00

RESIDENT SWIM passes are available from the Alliance Community Manager for Mueller resident patrons.

These policies will be revisited once the pool has been in operation, so we welcome your feedback and observations. Please forward any input to Alliance Customer Service at info@allianceonline.net.

Just a reminder that the pool is open today, and that the gate handle does not "turn" from the outside, you have to pull/push the gate open after swiping your card.

For those that may have had trouble opening the pool gates in the evening hours after 8:00PM, that has been reported and is being addressed today. It should be working this evening.

Is it true that the pool is to be closed after Labor Day?

Am I the only one who finds Austin freakishly hot during September too? Personally, I would love the pool to be open longer, even if it was without lifeguards.

I am totally with you on that! Even if it has to be resident only because of the life guard situation.

It's going to take a petition of some nature as there are still costs to keeping the pool filled and chemically-balanced if they extend the season without lifeguards.

As a person who would be moving in just after the pool closes this lacks a little cool in the literal sense.
The swim season in Texas is certainly not the same as it is in New England.
I would certainly like a significant amount of more detail on this decision and how it came about. I realize that there are costs and they have to be balanced out with everything else but some detail here is very desirable.

Re: Ella Wooten Park and Swim Center petition to have Pool open

I am moving in mid Auguat 2008 on Pinckney. One of the main reasons we bought a home on Pinckney was easy access to pool for me. Sept is the hottest month in Austin. Not everyone has children in school, so timing of pool hours should not be aligned with school schedules and public pool hours.
I will be happy to serve on the pool committee, start and manage petition, or whatever is needed. I realize there is expenses associated with pool hours, and We are more than willing to pay additional Home owners $ to get longer hours for pool. No lifeguard is very acceptable. Anyone with a pool access card can pay more for pool access and longer hours.
