I don't really know why you would have a kid that is not potty trained in a public pool?

I thought kids were required to be potty trained to get into a water park... why would a pool be different?

Kids are great and all... but if a kid isn't potty trained, can they swim (I don't know... maybe they can swim before potty trining?)

I would just think out of respect for others and sanitation, you wouldn't have any kind of diaper in a public pool... that just seems gross to me. I mean you can have a kid in a bath tub and play with him/her... that seems like it would be safer, too.

As an adult, if I had an incontinance problem, I surely wouldn't go into a public pool where others are knowing that I might cause an issue.

I realize that "everyone pays for the pool" etc... but I really don't believe that entitles you to put an untrained baby into the pool where they might be pooing and peeing in a public place. It just seems.... I mean a diaper in the pool? Really?

Things like this are why I am afraid to even get in a public pool that I help pay for.... /shudder.

As a silver lining, maybe learning from our issues will be helpful to residents in new phases. Specifically, I trust the design of future pool areas will not link the main pool to the youngsters' pool via a water bridge like we have now. So hopefully the chlorine shock experiments needed for the one won't also close down the other.

Dan,

I appreciate your concerns, which is why a "normal" diaper is not allowed in the pool. A swim diaper setup is specifically designed to prevent contamination. From what has been said before, this all-in-all seemed to be a bit more extreme then the typical situation, e.g. accidents happen. Also, swim diapers for adults exist too for the record.

Kids can be taught to swim before they are potty-trained. Infants at 6-months can begin survival swimming classes (to help teach them to not drown).

Your bathtub or kiddie-pool-in-the-yard are viable options (assuming a back yard), but if you have multiple kids, your options are more difficult. A 12- and 8-year old can't go to Wooten Pool alone and, frankly, trying to get an untrained 2-year old to understand they can't go in the water at all is next to impossible.

It isn't a matter of entitlement. It's a matter of design. Swimwear for pre-potty-trained kids exist (and work), the pool rules allow it and, in a well-designed pool, the areas are separated so accidental containment does not impact all swimmers.

My guess is the reclaimed water that irrigates the park is far far dirtier than the pool with kids playing in it.

Over to the left is the stop watching topic link. This is a very helpful link. Typically I click on it when someone with a really big opinion chimes in. So I say farewell as I hit the stop watching this topic button!

Untrained = not trained = not potty trained.

Why is that a big deal?

I just don't know a ton about kids. I actually asked some children counselors and found out kids can learn to swim before being potty trained. I learned something new!

I get the design issue. I do agree that if the design was better, it wouldn't even be an issue (or not so much of one).

Didn't mean to offend anyone with my comments, not everyone has kids.. or even has friends with kids... so some of us aren't used to the sensitivities of others when discussing the kiddoes. No offense intended.

Poop in the pool again, PSA, HUGs?
by Lori B on June 2nd, 2011

For the first day of spring we all hugged the lake. How about for the first day of summer, we all just meet at Ella Wooten Park and have a group hug?! Kind of a new beginning to coincide with the pool season.

Imagine, dog owners hugging non dog owners, adults with kids hugging adults without kids, pro-signagers laughing with non signage types, those who like to hunt their eggs conversing with those who those who prefer to scramble their eggs...

With all sincerity, this is a great neighborhood!
