Barbeque and frozen yogurt are coming to Mueller, as developers fill out the retail part of the project, at Interstate 35 North and East 51st Street.

Mr. Bones Barbeque, which is co-owned by former Austin City Council Member Willie Lewis, will begin serving slow-cooked barbeque, steaks and seafood later this year.

Yo So Cool will be the yogurt vendor. The shop is scheduled to open late this year.

Two other leases have been signed: Central Texas Pediatric Dentistry will be ready for business next month, and EyeMasters is slated to open early next year.

Four new businesses are coming to the Mueller development.

Mr. Bone's Barbecue, frozen yogurt concept Yo So Cool, Central Texas Pediatric Dentistry and EyeMasters are joining the retail mix that includes Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot and others.

Owned and operated by native Austinite John Goode and his business partner former City Council Member Willie Lewis, Mr. Bone's Barbeque will serve slow-smoked barbeque, steaks and seafood with southern homestyle preparation. The restaurant will also feature a rotating variety of side dishes made with local vegetables and a selection of homemade cakes and pies. Mr. Bone's is slated to open in late 2009.

"Mueller is emerging as a strong business and community center for the city of Austin and that kind of growth is encouraging for entrepreneurs like myself looking for a great place to do business," Goode said.

Joining Mr. Bone's is Yo So Cool, which features a variety of frozen yogurt flavors and toppings in a self-serve concept that allows customers to create custom combinations priced by weight. Yo So Cool is owned by Austin couple Rachel and Henry Kalisky and is scheduled to open in late 2009.

Also opening soon at Mueller are Central Texas Pediatric Dentistry (October 2009) and EyeMasters (early 2010). Mueller will be dentistry group's third location with offices also in Marble Falls and Lakeway. Mueller will be the eighth Austin location for San Antonio-based EyeMasters.

"Mr. Bone's, Yo So Cool and Central Texas Pediatric Dentistry are three great independent, local merchants," said David Ross who heads up Catellus Development Group's retail development at Mueller.

Other recent openings at Mueller include Frost Bank, Jamba Juice and Pad Thai. The retail center is just off I-35 and 51st Street.

I do miss the old style corner tavern. Maybe they can designate every corner on the east side of Berkman for bar/tavern/pub. The planned streetcar should help reduce drinking and driving from non-Mueller residents, and I'd be happy to have a crawlable http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pub_crawl area close by.

It is important to have a place for people to safely and socially "blow off steam."

I am definitely with you on wanting a bar/tavern/pub here. To me it makes much more sense for one to go in the Town Center and in Mosaic. I am excited by the new biz in the retail center though. You know Mr Bones will serve beer and wine :) I'll enjoy what I can get for now and stay excited about what will be coming soon.

Agreed. But why wait and wish for an outsider? Anyone here have restaurant/tavern managment experience? Sounds like you'd have some investors.

Anyone know who the best person to speak to about opening a local business in Mueller is?

We own a local business in downtown Austin.

I'd contact Brett Arabie at Oxford Commercial, which leases space in the Mueller retail area (I think). He may or may not be the right person, but would point you in the right direction if he wasn't. 512-370-2411
