I. We heard from Tom Davis of LifeGuard4Hire. 2014 swim lesson registration is now available on the website http://lifeguard4hire.com/. We discussed offering adult swim lessons and a master class in August. We requested the lifeguards enforce the pool rules for our safety and for the enjoyment of everyone at the pool. The lifeguards will continue to do a headcount of people at the pool each hour they are there.

II. We will create a sign to put on the ADA chair. Please don’t use this chair as a toy or to jump into the pool. This also applies to the lifeguard stands.

III. There was work going on last week to detect a leak in a water line. As soon as it’s found, a repair will be scheduled.

IV. If anyone is in the pool area on Mondays or after hours (between 10 pm and 5 am), please report it to Alliance Management 512-328-6100.

V. Announcements

a. 2014 Schedule: Open swim – with Lifeguards - begins Saturday, May 24 at Noon.
Resident Swim, Tuesday – Sunday 5 am – noon; 7:30 pm – 10 pm. No lifeguard supervision.
Open Swim, Tuesday – Sunday 1 pm – 7 pm. Lifeguards on duty.
Pool is closed on Monday.

Thank you for posting the rules. I hadn't read them since we moved in!!! There are some rules posted as you come in, but it's not a complete list.
Two Saturdays ago, I was at the pool in the afternoon (that doesn't happen very often.) A group brought in food and cake and proceeded to set up a birthday party on the picnic tables inside the pool gates. Also, there was a young man happily riding his scooter round and round the pool. I politely asked a young man to please stay off the handicap chair - he obliged. I asked the birthday party to please insure that no food went anywhere near the pool. They said that they would be careful. I didn't remember about the scooters, so I didn't say anything...
Is there any way that a brief list of ALL the rules (without explanations) could be put on a plastic banner and posted somewhere at the pool? I know that some people have not read them, some people don't remember, and some people don't care. I think that it would be a help to have reminders....

Thank you, Pool Committee! Since we're talking once again about signage, I want to reiterate the need for rules and signs in Spanish. We have lots of native Spanish-speakers in our neighborhood as well as visitors once the pool opens to the public!

Currently all signage is in English but your point is well-taken, Ben. We'll see about signs in Spanish also.

Some of the pool rules are posted on a light pole on the northeast corner of the pool. I'll see about getting a list of all the pool rules posted maybe by the lifeguards office. Other rules are posted individually in bold in the pool area.

2 questions:
I realize the pool is generally closed on Mondays. Does that include Memorial Day too?
Is food allowed at the picnic tables just inside the gate between the locker rooms? These rules seem to say no but signage at the pool seems to say food is ok at the picnic tables but not down the ramps in the pool area.

Hi Andrea, the "no food in the pool area" rule is state mandated, but the pool committee has a little bit of leeway in defining the "pool area" beyond a 6' perimeter of the water. Originally we defined it as no food inside the fence. However, we found people did not honor this rule and brought food inside the fence and ate on the grass. This attracts ants which then makes the grass unusable for everyone. In an effort to keep food off the grass, the pool committee has agreed to test a compromise. The modified rule will allow snacks in the fence on the picnic tables but not any closer to the pool. This means no food on the ramps to the pool area or on the grass around the pool. Our hope is that we can all get behind this compromise and encourage each other to enjoy snacks up at the picnic tables by the changing rooms and not in the grass. For this to be successful we'll all have to clean up after ourselves. If there is a noticeable increase in food trash, we'll likely have to revert back to old rule of no food at all inside the fence.
