Neighbors - We're preparing for our first halloween in Mueller.

- Will Oct. 31st be official trick or treat time in the neighborhood?

- How many visitors should be expect?

Thanks!

Oh, Carol, are you in for a treat!
Yes, October 31st is the day. I don't know if this happens all over the neighborhood, but on our street, we get between 500 and 600 visitors. Kids come from everywhere in East Austin. One of my neighbors said that we would not be able to buy enough treats and I thought he was kidding. He wasn't!! It's great fun.

Fran is spot on. Last year we handed out 640 treats (one per kid) and called it done. Feel free to close your door and turn off you lights when you've had enough. We usually do sometime between 8 and 9. It's a ton of fun. Mueller is the best trick or treat neighborhood. Good lighting and wide sidewalks. Not to mention our density provides the best candy to linear feet walked ratio.

And don't bother going back inside and sitting down because it will be a steady stream of kids. We usually sit on the front porch and enjoy the fun. Last year we went through 26 pounds of candy.

I went through 10 or so bags of chocolate candy bars last year. One suggestion is that you may get a very few number of kids who will not be able to take certain types of candy, so I usually have a variety of non-candy treats on hand.

Oh, and the dogs that come along for the evening appreciate the occasional milk bone.

Seeing a lack of halloween decorations this year, I was wondering if Muellerites were not so into Halloween this year because of the craziness that comes with it.

I have to say that Halloween is overwhelming here. There are so many kids that it is hard to really enjoy the costumes and have much interaction. Seriously, there are swarms of kids. One swarm after the other. I was in a sweat last year. Definitely stick with one piece per kid.Try to have backup so you can take a break. I went through about $80-90 of candy, and some were giant Costco bags!

Even though I wish there were less people here on Halloween, I still have decorated my yard in the Halloween spirit, which means more will come to my house. Plus most houses on our street do a great job decorating. So, I guess we are asking for it. But, I do love Halloween.

* Edited for better English. I had originally written it like a second grader.

Your perspective is spot on, in my opinion.

We are very into the spirit of Halloween on McCloskey! We are building a crypt in our dining room and always shift a graveyard from behind the fence (for a pumpkin carving party) to the front yard just in time for trick or treaters.

Last year, w gave our 1-2 pieces of candy and small sprider rings per child. I lost count at 200 chuildren and went through about 6 lbs. or candy...

Susan-
You are not planning to have the trick or treaters come into your dining room, are you?
