Parents: a stranger, white male "with a haircut" who was "very nice", came to our home and knocked on the door and spoke to my 6 and 5 year old on Friday afternoon, while the sitter was upstairs. He told them he had just moved in to the grey house down the road and had a cool trampoline. He "heard this was
The place to ask about it" and that he has three girls their exact ages 6, 5 and 2. When asked he told them they were "waiting in the car". I found this highly suspicious and inappropriate for someone we don't know to carry on a conversation with my kids without an adult present. We have since terrified our kids about answering the door for strangers. (we thought we already had covered this, but they are scared now!) he very well could have been telling the truth, but still very odd. I we see him again we will report him as a suspicious person.

I would recommend reporting this to the police. It's possible he's been doing something similar in other neighborhoods, and multiple reports can help the police connect the dots.

No right-thinking adult would ever dream of knocking on a door and talking to a stranger's kids this way. A right-thinking adult would have asked to speak to another adult.

I'm with Murmur. Because of my line of work, I tend to be overly cautious (read: paranoid), but my sweet-as-can-be mother-in-law agreed: especially as a supposed father of *three* *girls*, he wouldn't have carried on a conversation like this without having quickly asked for an adult. I agree, it very well could have been completely innocent, but if he's really a father of three young girls, wouldn't he completely understand? 311 is the number for non-emergencies; they may connect you to 911, but there's nothing wrong with that :)

Hi. Though I am not a 'traditional' parent, I find it very suspicious, especially when making any reference, directing a child to a car, or anywhere for that matter, being that he entered yall's domain as a stranger. Definitely report to police. Thank you for posting. We can all keep a look out for him. The kids also, shouldn't be answering the door or telephone.

This was all discussed on another thread a couple of days ago. Not sure why a second thread was started, but the originator of the thread said the man returned later with his wife, etc. and was legitimately moving into the GC. Not that this doesn't mean he used very poor judgment in this instance. Just wanted folks to know that this appears to be resolved.

I think it was only resolved on FaceBook, not here. That is why.

Ah yes. Of course. I forgot where I had seen it.

FYI: Suspicious Man (Nov 2012 incident)
by commuter on November 15th, 2012

about 10 days ago (I think night of Sun Nov 4th / early AM Mon Nov 5th) a young man in his late teens or early twenties rang our doorbell around 1 AM. A visiting family member opened the door. He was wearing a short sleeve t-shirt or shirt and soccer shorts. He was barefoot and said he needed help and wanted us to call for a cab. He was permitted to make a phone call and then left, but wanted to give the neighbors a heads up to keep a look out. The rest of us learned about the incident the following morning. Nothing has happened since.
