Who would like a Royal Blue Grocery in Mueller?

When I first moved in here about 3 years ago, the MNA was distributing cards that were intended to be given to local businesses that we'd like to see locate here. Wonder if there are any more of those around, or whether a re-print might be in order?

Hi Carol, you raise a couple of interesting questions.

Quote:
I support the idea in principle, but would like more info about the negatives. As a Mosaic resident, I'm concerned abiut traffic, parking, trash, and noise. What info have you gathered about these aspects of a busy retail store?

My gut feeling is that it would be better situated in the more commercial town center.

For what it's worth, the Mosaic is part of the Mueller Town Center and is a mixed use site. A ground floor corner store or small specialty grocer to serve neighborhood pedestrian traffic (which is what Royal Blue is) seems like it presents minimal risk of those issues that aren't already presented by the parking garage, traffic circle, park, and the rest of the Town Center currently being developed.

Here's how the Mosiac Website puts it:
http://www.mosaicaustin.com/austin-tx-apartments.asp

"The Mueller town center district is a new urban neighborhood that brings people together to live, work and play in the heart of Mueller. The lively streets of the town center district will feature a diverse mix of high-quality national, regional and local retail, restaurant and entertainment options. The town center district will also be home to more than one third of Mueller's residents and to hundreds of jobs as the hub of the Mueller employment center. It's the ideal setting for boutiques and bars, movie houses and malt shops, fine dining and casual cuisine, artists and artisans, professionals and slackers, and just about everything in between."

Although I don't know how likely it is, I would welcome a high quality local retailer like Royal Blue Grocery to any location in Mueller, including Mosaic, and I'd walk there for a lot of things that I currently have to drive out of the neighborhood for. It seems like a good fit and I'm happy to lend my voice to the chorus.

email sent, to both owners.

It's silly that mueller residents can't buy eggs, milk, bread, gum or wine in our own neighborhood, and even when HEB comes there will still be a need for a corner grocer.
Hopefully Royal Blue Grocery or somebody else will see the opportunity and that the realtors will make it possible.

fwiw, I think you can buy all of the above except wine at family dollar. and i'm not really sure about the wine. they might have some. of course, none of it is fancy, but it is easily within walking distance. I've gotten eggs there several times when i've been in a pinch.

Quite true. Family Dollar is great in a pinch, particularly for household stuff like detergent- only issues are location (on Airport), selection and on food products, quality.

Yes, Family Dollar is nice, but they don't sell beer or wine. Too bad - they would get my money, especially if they carried a decent selection.

Wonder what kind of businesses will pop up in the new shop houses?
by misselaine on June 20th, 2012

I love that! IT's so European. We need a baker and a green grocer in those shop houses.
