I also sent in my SO exemption form in January and confirmed by phone last month that it was received; however, the SO exemption is missing on my recent appraisal. Perhaps that's why, in part, my appraisal is so high this year?
We finally received our appraisal on Tuesday which did not reflect the solar exemption that we submitted in January. We called the appraisal office yesterday and were told that exemption information for our property had "just been uploaded today." We are supposed to receive an updated appraisal notice by the end of the month with a new protest window deadline. When you call, expect a long hold time (15 minutes)...this is a very busy time of year for the appraisal office. The exemption is THE difference in our appraisal this year.
Even after they apply the SO exemption, the appraised value will continue to include the solar, but the value of the solar will be deducted in the lines at the bottom before computing the tax due to each taxing entity.
Ours didn't either. But, it went up the usual 10%, the highest they can raise it. I can't imagine having a solar exemption would change that as it has gone up 10% every year, even before solar. We still will challenge it, as usual.
We received our appraisal a few weeks ago and it did not reflect the solar exemptions, but since it was all we had before the May 31st deadline, I went ahead and filed (not electronically) a protest last week of May.
Then this week I got a "Corrected Notice" with the solar exemptions with a new deadline of filing by July 1st.
Just called them to see if I need to re-submit an updated protest, since the appraisal is still too high (even with the exemption) and was advised not to, even though they hadn't yet entered my original protest into their system yet.... What are the odds this will get messy?
I expect a mess. The jump in value due to solar was well above the install price that I provided them. They are probably using a set price-per-kW to value the array. This would seem a mistake that would not stand up in either an arb board or a court of law. While they may be simplifying their process, they are over-valuing the solar array. This looks like a trap for those that fail to file their exemptions each year.
I filed my solar exemption, but it is not reflected on my appraisal this year. It seems like some of you received a corrected appraisal, but mine has the July 1 protest deadline, so I am guessing no corrected version will come. I plan on calling, but has anyone had the same thing happen?
Shelly - I only got 1 appraisal this year. Do you see SO in your list of exemptions? If so, it's been figured in. If you think it's high, protest with the rest of us! :)
The truth is that no type of this service will be cheap with all that it entails, it is a responsibility and an investment that in the long run will give you more benefits than a simple expense can cover in my case I asked the guys who installed Solar panel monitoring To be honest about how many panels I needed to cover my energy bill or fee, to be able to reduce 70% less than what I was paying and the truth is that until today I have finished paying and I am collecting the benefits of cheaper electricity.
