Changes to Alliance/Time-Warner cable/internet deal?
by icemonkeyharvest on April 29th, 2012

Direct TV has a decent package for $52 the first year and $67 the second year including an HD DVR and second HD Reciever w/ 2yr contract. This includes HD programing and local channels.

Dish has a variety of packages, but a comparable one is $72 the first year and $87 each year after that.

Internet through AT&T is $30 a month for 12mbps and TW is $30 for 10mbps.

So, there is a potential for some savings. Dish and Direct have more package options than ATT and TW.

icemonkeyharvest,

Did you have a link for the AT&T internet for $30? I can't seem to find that. Thanks!

Oh! Good call. I was looking at the bundle price and not the stand alone which is $48 plus equipment fees.

I'll HIGHLY recommend DirecTV. We have been with them since the 90's, and they are extremely reliable, even during bad weather. They have more channels than DISH, and for those of you displaced NFL fans, like me, (Go, Packers!) DirecTicket allows you to watch all your games live. We have our internet through AT&T also, and wouldn't even consider a change. In our opinions, the best services available.

For what it's worth, Steven at TWC knew about the Mueller situation when I called today. After some checking he found he was able to give me Standard internet-only (up to 10mbps; unlimited) for $29.99 (one-year promotion, not a contract), and gave me a credit on my bill for the $39.99 charge I will see on my first bill for them to have the TWC employee come out and disconnect my cable by tomorrow? Anyone else that went from HOA cable/internet deal to internet-only with TWC hear about this cable disconnect charge? Just curious.

Changes to Alliance/Time-Warner cable/internet deal?

Hi,

Yes, although I didn't get it disconnected, they told me that if there is a change in the non-digital cable, they have to send someone out which is normally a fee or to connect digital cable/setup cable box. They offered to waive that fee when I spoke with them. Apparently they have to physically adjust the non-digital cable whereas with digital cable (as also with our internet connection), they can actually "control" it remotely which also allows them to do diagnostics and such if you have any technical issues.

I wasn't ever given the option of $30 for standard internet for a year. I was later told that the $39.99/year for standard internet was actually only a 6 month promo. So keep that in mind if you did that deal.

Cheers,
Ben

Changes to Alliance/Time-Warner cable/internet deal?

I called this morning and talked with Christina. Before calling I checked TWC's website and found a bundle for $89.99 (Internet, Cable, and Phone) which includes 12 months free HD-DVR service and 6 months free Turbo Charged internet. Of course, the deal is only available online and when I tried to get it ordered, I got the "your address is part of a group bundle deal" message thereby preventing me from taking advantage of this deal.

I told Christina about this deal and she put me on hold but before she did, told me that they have a difficult time finding the internet only deals on their system (geez. . don't they have internet access?). She did come back on the line, told me she found what I had seen on the web, told me she could meet the monthly rate but only offer 3 months of the free HD-DVR service ($10/mo).

I thanked her and told her that I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning in hopes that their system will be updated and know that I'm no longer in a bundled deal and it will let me order their $89.99 special. Here's hoping!

Is there anyone who cancelled their TW internet who can tell me how long your road runner email account was active post-cancellation? My main reason for sticking with TWC is I hate the thought of updating the many accounts that I have used my email address for as well as updating my personal contacts. If there was a 6 month grace period I could probably get the changes out before the account was deactivated but Christina seemed to think it would be immediately cancelled.

BTW, if you do go with AT&T universe, be forewarned. HD is another $10.

I was so surprised that it wasn't included, that I complained and got it waived for a year. So, U-verse 200 with 12 mpbs is now $105 for one year, then $135.
