Yay! APD patrol car was working the radar gun on Zach Scott this afternoon when I got home from work. One of the most entertaining (and gratifying) things I've seen from my front porch in a while.

We need them to monitor the turn about too. A large number of people coming from Airport have no idea they are suppose to yield to cars already in the circle.

APD Central East Commander is Raul.munguia@ci.austin.tx.us, 974-5900
and our APD Distr. Rep. is Antwain.Tarver@ci.austin.tx.us, 974.4937

The more people contact them the more likely we'll get attention. They have limited patrol resources and spend them where most needed - squeaky wheel.....

Yes, I nearly got killed yesterday when someone came racing into the turnaround that I was already in and laid on their horn while I frantically tried to get out of their way AND miss someone trying to cross the crosswalk.

It looks like 311 needs another call. I called once about this and they were also trying to figure a way to fix this. I told them that they need to move the "instructions" on how to navigate the circle closer to the actual circle. Right now they are so far away that you would miss the sign once you turned in off of airport. The only sign in the circle right now, correct me if I am wrong, is a one way sign. They need yield signs as well!

This problem is terrible as the drivers never seem to stop coming into the circle. I hope yeild signs are not needed, I would assume a licensed driver would know how to navigate a circle. I will not get out of their way or break, I honk my horn and let them know I have the right away in the circle. I hope my method of tactically scaring the drivers works, but it may take one driver at a time to learn I'm not yielding to poor drivers who don't know how to navigate a circle. Watch Out I'm coming through. Maybe I'll spend a day just continually circling to get the message out! Talk about a place more dangerous than Zach Scott, I have to be prepared everytime to honk my horn and make a sudden move, I'de be safer in a NASCAR race..

At the circle they need:
1)Yield signs on both sides of every road entering the circle
2)To merge the two lanes of traffic that inexplicably exist after you turn off airport into one well before the circle, not at the circle as it is now. This would also make it better for the bus stop that is there as well. Coming from the direction of Best Buy, they also need to merge those two lanes into one as well with better road marking.
3)Put up those hard plastic barriers to guide people in the proper direction (to stop the occasional driver who treats it like a four-way stop and turns left into the circle)

As far as speeding on Zach Scott, the best idea I've seen is having a traffic light that turns red if someone is speeding. How much does one of those cost? I will donate money.

I agree, it isn't clear that two lanes merge into one at the circle. There have been times I've wondered if I was wrong in assuming that.

I've also noticed a lot of cars using that circle as a shortcut to avoid waiting for the light. Airport gets backed up, so they whip down the turn-only lane, shoot through the circle, and turn right back onto Airport. They seem to be the worst failure-to-yield offenders (or maybe the fastest moving ones). Not sure what can be done aside from making a "no right turn on red", which would likely be ignored by short-cut seekers and would be a pain for everyone else.

Maybe a "no right on red from 4-6 PM" coupled with some ticketing...

This just in from Ofcr. Tarver:
On yesterday, I conducted another traffic enforcement initiative. The initiative was in response to the numerous complaints that I have received regarding speeding throughout the neighborhood. The results were as follows:
*
3 traffic citations issued for Speeding

The posted speed limit within your neighborhood is 30 MPH. During my observations at Mueller, I have always observed a substantial amount of joggers, walkers, as well as youth playing within the area. The speeding issues present an obvious danger to citizens. I will continue to conduct traffic enforcement initiatives at Mueller to suppress and hopefully diminish the speeding concerns. In addition, I have also requested that Patrol Services focus on this concern. Lastly, please review the information posted below in reference to a crime trend that is occurring within your area. As always, be safe and please inform me if any other concerns at Mueller arise.

Mosaic at Mueller Apartments
Citizens have passed on information to me regarding several thefts from lower level apartment patios. In the past, citizens have also reported vehicle burglaries within the residential parking garage as well as on adjacent streets. I have requested that Patrol Services increase the frequency of patrols within this area as time/call load permits. Diana Amaro (APD Auto Theft Interdiction Project) and I have met with Mosaic management staff to discuss concerns and also presented an auto burglary and theft prevention session at the premise earlier in the month. We plan to offer additional information sessions in the future. I have also conducted Directed Patrols at the premise during normal business hours. In addition, other agency resources will be directed to the area pending enforcement/investigative actions. I request that you pass on this information to your residents via email or other means to keep them informed. This message also serves as documentation purposes of our agency's efforts to address crime concerns and maintain the safety of our community
