Clever use of a cell phone and its internet capability: Medicine in the 3rd World
by Rod on August 20th, 2010

I recently attended and gave a keynote talk at the: “2010 US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship (UKC 2010),” jointly organized by the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) and The Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST). Focus was green technology.

At the poster session I got a real kick out of work at UCLA as presented by a lively graduate student. Using a very simple method to generate a hologram (a holographic image), blood cells in a blood sample are imaged with no magnification, onto the camera detection component of a cell phone. Hundreds of thousands of cells could be trivially imaged in one shot, and simply sent through the internet for exceptionally rapid analysis of the presence of certain undesirable cell types. The student estimated cost at about $10 for the fixture to attach to the cell phone. (The cell phone is opened, but not altered--components used as is.)

A rather interesting POC (point of care) option that uses the worldwide web. I didn't quite get the hologram part and so he explained that somehow the flash used is partially coherent (not a laser certainly but partially coherent)...poster session was ending...he emphasized that the goal was to drive the cost of the fixture to $10, then one needs only a donated cell phone and internet connectivity to send the images for analysis. Draw blood, prepare appropriately (perhaps needs diluting in simple way etc) snap photo in conjunction with fixture, email photo, get analysis extremely rapidly as feedback, help patient almost in real time.

Lot's of good people in the world, trying to help others!

Viagra is a great product which I tried about 2 months ago, and it was quick and very effective. I loved that I could take it in pill form. https://melbournekamagra.com/2019/08/how-to-buy-viagra-in-switzerland-online/
