Attempted theft
by Kathleen Malcom on December 13th, 2010

I would report it to our APD District Rep. Antwain Tarver. He is assigned to our area and needs to know if theif's have their sights on us. They scope us out first, and then hit our weak spots in the alleys because no one can see them from the streets. Jenifer Harvey also needs to advise our Security car to patrol the alleys. I have invited Antwain to speak at our January MNA meeting.

Saw the cop car outside your house and was wondering what was going on. Good thing you came back in the garage when you did. What happened when you spotted the guy? Did you get a license plate?

Didn't get the plates but it was a newer (2007 -2010?) Nissan Sentra, silver with no
tint on the windows and the front bumper was missing.

There were two guys. The driver was shocked to see me. I couldn't see the other guy because he was not in the car but standing on the other side of my truck.

I questioned myself at first, trying to convince myself that maybe they were neighbors or visiting a neighbor. I could not believe how fast it happened. I had only been home maybe 10 minutes. I never leave my door open but I didn't want to wake my son while carrying him inside. I laid him down and came right back out - and there they were.

That is scary, did they run or speed off as soon as they saw you? What area of the neighborhood was this?

Glad no confrontation happened and that all is ok.

Friendly Reminder - Theft!!
by cole.kitten on June 24th, 2011

It's been a while since this has been on the boards so I wanted to bring it up after an experience I had yesterday afternoon.

REMEMBER, it only takes a minute to have something stolen out of your garage. So if you have your garage open and you need to take a few trips inside, go ahead and close it behind you. It's the quick opportunity to take something that thieves are looking for around here, and believe me, they'll take every opportunity they get.

I was lucky that I was actually IN my garage, out of sight, when a man stopped and ran up to the garage in an attempt to grab my miter saw. I jumped up and asked him what he was doing and his response was a startling, "do you know how I can get to Mopac from here". Now call me crazy, but if I'm lost and looking for directions I don't drive down people's alleys looking for directions, let alone get out of my car to ask directions. So I told the man he was being suspect driving down people's alleys and stopping at an open garage. He tried to explain that he was looking for a construction job nearby, and that he was also from out of town. He also had a woman with him and said why would I be stealing things with my wife? I just told him I would take his license plate and to stop driving down people's alleys and he drove off.

Who knows maybe this guy was actually lost, but I played it better safe than sorry and thought it was a good reminder to not give thieves the opportunity to steal something.

So if you see a green late model Jeep Cherokee and the guy is looking for Mopac in your alley, he’s more than likely looking for something to steal.

I reported to Officer Tarver this morning a somewhat suspicious white minivan (slightly older model of the dodge/chrysler/plymouth look) whose driver was looking down our alley and quickly drove off when he saw me. I exited the other side of the alley and he had gone around the block, so I was able to get his license plate, and he quickly drove down Antone and exited Mueller.

My apologies if I misinterpreted a fellow resident's (or guest's) actions, but I'd rather play it safe and report any potentially suspicious activity.
