My how our neightborhood has grown! (Halloween)
by bullcreek on October 31st, 2009

A year ago, I bought five bags of candy to hand out on Halloween. We ate candy bars at the office for weeks. This year, I got the same amount of candy (hey, I like a Snickers fun-size in the middle of the afternoon as much as the next guy..)

This year, the onsslaught started at 5:30. At 7:15, the doors are locked, the windows are barred, and I've got the cellphone on speed dial to 911 in anticipation of imminent tricks..

I think I need a levelized payment plan for next year...

You need a kid. When they come back from Trick or Treating, you can just start passing out the candy they came home with.

I ran out of candy at 8pm, and started giving away the toy insects I had scattered around my front steps. I even had one kid give me candy so he could take extra bugs. This was the most awesome neighborhood Halloween ever.

THAT'S exactly what we did! We're on Threadgill, on a block with lots of construction....so probably NOT as highly traveled last night as some streets. But I gave out more candy last night (turned off the light at 9pm!!) than I ever did in ANY of my previous neighborhoods (Balcones Woods, Hyde Park, Brentwood, and Crestview). I had a blast!

Can't wait to do it again next year!!!

Yeah, last year was so dead that we had the same leftover candy problem as you, @bullcreek. So this year, I went light on the candy purchases (we've been trying to diet, and I didn't want the temptation around afterwords). Big mistake! I was out of candy in 20 minutes flat!

I'm sure my mistake didn't impose a hardship on any candy-starved neighborhood kids.

Last year I had literally 3 kids come to my door. This year I had a lot more but still only went thru one of the big Costco bags of candy. Was fun to see all the cute kids in their costumes!
