Online Maps updated ... when?
by Shane
on December 4th, 2007
Does anyone have any idea when online maps get updated? According to Google, many of the airport buildings are still there and the closest I can find to my address is in San Marcos.

There's a new infill neighborhood (Colonial Trails?) which Main Street finished at least two, maybe three years ago right next to ours and it still doesn't show up on maps.

I originally thought that Google compiled the information from various government GIS databases, but apparently thats not true at all. This page indicates that they get the data from third party companies:

Poking around a little bit more, I discovered that you can report map discrepancies with the mapping companies here:

http://mapfeedback.teleatlas.com/index.htm
I suspect if enough of us report the problem that they'll send someone over to remap the area.

the post office told me that these big online companies update their databases once maybe twice a year....so it could be awhile until our list gets sold to them. I miss my netflix as right now they won't acknowledge that we exist over here when I type in my zip...sigh

Do you need maps simply for personal use, or for delivery drivers to know where to bring stuff?

If you need a map to show friends how to find you - I traced the builder lot map in Inkscape .
The editable SVG is here: http://spruco.com/mueller_map.svg .
A viewable graphic is here: http://spruco.com/mueller_map.png .
I know - if I was a professional graphic artist, I'd be a hungry one.

That's awesome!!! Thanks so much for the map! And yes - I was looking for something for my friends. I love that I'm in the Garden Court, but the addressing for my house is going to confuse the crap out of anyone actually trying to find me....considering my address is on Camacho & my next door neighbors are on Scales....wacky! I need something where I can do an 'X marks the house'. This is great.

henningspruth,
Nice work on the map. It will be very helpful while we wait for the major sites to be updated.
I did notice however that the street you labeled "Moreno St." is actually "Littlefield St."
