This is a great idea and (given the crime events over the past year) each area block captain should solicit at least one resident in his/her area to participate.

This has been discussed on and off for several years. More folks taking the training would be great. Education is a good tool. Officer Tarver has covered many of these topics in prior presentations to Mueller residents. We do a good job of watching out for each other, exchanging contact info, etc. and our area is safer than most other close-in neighborhoods.

If you're looking for a more 'formal' effort, that's when you need volunteers with a lot of time to dedicate to the cause. It takes someone willing to make a major time commitment to organize the effort. And it takes a LOT of volunteers. Even then, most involved with these discussions have agreed that we have to be very careful about how such an effort would be perceived. Yes, we want our community to be safe, but we don't want to look or act like a bunch of vigilantes.
