Getting Solar Panels (Summer 2011)
by Betsy on June 27th, 2011

Maybe it's unique to row houses. We're in a yard house and I don't remember the HOA asking about our insurance at all. State Farm doesn't have a rider, per se, the panels are just covered along with the rest of the house. Again, maybe it would be different if we were in a yard home.

POA requires a letter from insurer stating that the panels are covered - row homes (condos) only. Don't know about a rider

Hey Melissa,

If you shoot me your phone number, I can put you on the phone with someone in a row home who has already gone through the process with their insurance company as well as with the POA. The good news is, this is the first time I've heard an insurance company not cover it, so you have options.

Talk to you soon,

Aman

I pointed out the wording exempting solar installations from requiring approval, too, both to Jennifer and to someone at the main office, but was told I was required to submit the request AND the check for $110.

I was thinking of getting of solar panel for my home to get rid of the electricity bills and all and i am not aware of the procedure and best quality materials required for it. Do I assemble it or these are available in the market easily? Please suggest me so that i can enjoy this renewable energy.

We went through the Pecan Street project and had ours installed by Texas Solar. There were a number of companies here installing panels this summer. Because of the huge rebates going on through September, we couldn't pass up the great deal, but I don't know if there is anything out there right now for that.

Our savings have been quite substantial for the first couple of months - worth it for sure! However, this is definitely not a do-it-yourself project.

We live in a row house on Zach Scott and have been thinking about going solar too! For now I mostly have questions about the rebates...

It seems that we've missed the end of September deadline for a bonus rebate of $0.50 per watt from Austin Energy, but its Solar Rebate Program that offers a $2.50 per watt incentive still stands for 2011, right? Is the Pecan Street Project rebate also still available?

Thanks!

The message submitted by user: Aron smith is SPAM - hopefully someone can remove it.

The $2.50 /watt rebate from Austin energy is still active, as is the 30% federal tax credit. The bonus incentive from AE and the Pecan Street rebates have expired. I'm happy to answer any other specific questions about solar by email if that's easier - Aman - amankj at gmail

We're thinking of adding some solar panels. Anyone else interested in pooling together like the initial Mueller Megawatt installations? There's the AE rebates, and the 30% federal tax credits. If so, PM me and will begin a compilation.

If you already have solar and want to add more solar, then we can include those as well. Let me know ASAP.
