Mortgage shopping

My fiance and I just signed a contract with David Weekley to have a garden home built. We are mortgage shopping now and wondering what type of experiences people have had with preferred lenders (with or without David Weekley). Thoughts about the process?

I am not very familiar with David Weekly's finance options, but I did refinance with the RBFCU ( Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union ).

Along with their great rates, they have online posted "todays rates", application, and mortgage calculations/estimates. I found their special offer for an unusual 11 year refinance especially attractive.

They have been actively recruiting new customers in Austin, as they open new branches in Austin, and spread out away from their San Antonio and Houston roots (from the original military base customers).

I have found that they have very competitive rates for savings and checking, and they are also a great place for my banking needs.

I am a licensed mortgage banker in 46 states. Do not go to lending tree!!!! All that company does is SELL your information to brokers - repeatedly. You will get all sorts of phone calls from that ONE form.
A better approach would be to contact a broker in your area, or you could contact me. Either way - you will want to compare several items.
1. Points (are charged to reduce the interest rate) are tax deductible and are equal to 1% of the loan amount. Ex. 100,000 loan with 1 point - costs you 1,000
2. Origination Fees - this is a fee charged by the lender, again an origination point is 1% of the loan amount.
