TV/Internet providers recommendations?
by kromel on January 27th, 2015

I am going to switch cable TV/Internet providers when I move this summer. I can’t deal with Time Warner any longer. Please share your experience with other options like AT&T U-verse, Dish, Direct TV, etc.

Watch out for AT&T, they told me I did not have a contract when I signed up and when I cancelled. Yet they charged me a big fee when I cancelled. I had to call and complain on Twitter to get that reversed. It was a giant hassle. DirecTV was okay but they just didn't offer TiVo at the time so I went with Time Warner.

We live on MacCloskey and had ATT for a long time but found the channel guide slow and recording options limited. We have Direct TV at our other home and love it. The channel guide gives you many options, you can breeze thru channels by pages and do so as fast as your finger press the button. You can search 12 hours ahead at a time, record "series", first run only or repeats if you want. If you miss your show by a few minutes it gives you an option of going to the beginning. There is Direct TV Cenima plus other movie choices. We have two accounts now, one without HBO and Showtime is about $80-90 a month. The other has sll the premium channels to which we rarely use.

I'm holding out with Time Warner and internet-only service. With over-the-air HDTV, a Tivo, Netflix and Amazon Prime I have more than enough to watch. Looking forward to Google Fiber, though.

Henning, I think I will follow that same plan as soon as HBO & Showtime start streaming w/o cable: http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/05/standalone-showtime/

TiVo is the best DVR in my opinion and I can get my Daily Show fix thru Hulu Plus.
