Home Network - NAS device help
by sthoppil on August 9th, 2010

Anyone have any experience with NAS(network area storage) setup? i have a readynas duo and had it working once and now the customer support time limit has run out i can no longer connect...how curious! wondering if someone can help figure this out with me or recommend a cost effective service/solution that can help me get this back up. my computer recognizes the devices through the software utility that came with the device but i cannot open the device itself to access file.
please PM me if you can assist or sort out some help from somewhere
thanks

When a friend recommended Sonos to me, I passed along the info to my husband who pulled his usual skeptic thing. But he did research it and found that Stereophile magazine really liked it. He said if they like it it's gotta be good because they don't like crap. So we took the plunge and have really enjoyed it. We use their portable unit upstairs and their unit connected to our own speakers downstairs. Everything controlled with an iPhone app. And I got to thank my friend!

On another note, who's your IT help? I need help setting up remote access and opening a port in my firewall.

I work for a commercial Audio/Visual company here in Austin, and can tell you that Apple's Airport Express is a great way to share household music. Would be happy to stop by and consult you all with any or all of your AV needs.

I have already done several Mueller resident's whole house audio/video systems with great success. Please - to all - call me anytime if you would like me to stop by. All Mueller residents get a neighborly discount.

Streaming Music & Video
by Joe Zabreznik on August 11th, 2010

There are number of solutions on the market depending on how many items in your home that you want to automate. If you only want to stream music that is one solution. If you want to stream music & video then you would look at something else. If you want to stream music & video, automate your lighting & HVAC system, through a single application, on your iphone or ipad, then that is a completey different solution.

With regard to Sonos it is definitely a very robust solution if you want to stream music throughout the house. It provides access to all of your music files that may be stored on your computer as well as internet radio. Additionally, you can control it all through your iphone, itouch or ipad. If you'd like a demo of Sonos feel free to give me a call. I have a number of zones set up in my house and would be more than willing to walk you through it.

As a disclaimer - I am a Mueller resident that also happens to sell & install home electronics for a living. My business name is Audio Video Obession. AVO specializes in providing personalized, high quality, cost effective, audio/video & home automation systems. I've installed a number of the Sonos solutions here in Mueller. Some with in-wall/ceiling speakers and others with stand alone units. I provide sales, support & installation for these and other systems. Basically, if they sell it at Best Buy I probably have access to it.

If you have any audio/video questions at all please don't hesitate to give me a call. I'd be more than happy to answer your questions regarding Sonos or any other solution.

I have a number of references in the neighborhood and a few of them can be found right here on the forum:
