an interesting article that talks about some of the market forces playing against a truly distributed grid, though some of these issues have been discussed during the rate review process and during the Mueller Megawatt discussions.

I just found this and I support shifting the date. Is anything happening on shifting it?

I still can't seem to get over the fact that AE is basically stealing the electricity that our solar is creating but "resetting" (a nice say to say they aren't going to pay us) our account to zero.

I'm pretty sure if our system doesn't have a credit we are expected to pay the difference.

Found out recenly that AE is planning to roll over any credits for the electric accounts at the end of this year. This buys them time to decide what to do with credits on an ongoing basis. They are considering shifting the "zero out" date to Oct. 1st. However, they are also considering a perpetual credit that doesn't zero out at all. I would personally be more in favor of this option as it avoids the possibility of lost credits and will be easier to get passed (since AE won't have to make any changes to the system). Ultimately, I'm anticipating that I'll get to use those credits as our house (and hopefully society) moves toward electric vehicles.

I queried Leslie Libby at AE and she replied that they would not be resetting the carry-over credit in January. She said that most likely the new Value of Solar Credit effective date and the carry-over reset date would be October 1, 2013.

I got a letter in the mail from Austin Energy regarding their decision to change the "accumulated solar credit reset date" to the end of their fiscal year (Sep 30) rather than Dec 31 as it was originally designed. This means that any credit homeowners have generated this winter wil help them offset their electricity needs in the spring and summer.

While this solution is not perfect (rolling 12 month expiration of credits would be), it's really, really close. My guess is, 95% of homeowners should be paid back for 100% of their solar production at what is already a pretty generous rate.

Exactly 14 months ago, we celebrated the installation of 1.2 Megawatts of solar in Mueller. This is just another example of how when citizens work together, we can move real change - thanks to everyone who expressed their concern with the rate structure change to the appropriate Austin Energy and City of Austin officials! Go Mueller!
