For months now, someone has been leaving their dog in the "yard" of their row home on Berkman. The dog barks incessantly (and sometimes even howls) during the evenings (maybe other times as well, but it's the worst during the evening). This has been going on for quite some time, and each time for hours.

If this is your dog, I know it's entirely possible that you have to leave it in the yard when you leave the house and are unaware of its barking. It's probably worse for those of us who are a bit closer to you, but I wanted you to be aware since the barking only happens when the dog is outside.

I understand that this is part of the deal when living in the row homes and sharing walls with your neighbors, but if there is anything you can do to help mitigate the noise, I believe many of us would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Could you be a little more specific about where on Berkman you are? That could possibly be our dog, though our little dog stays indoors in a box during most of the weekday and evening hours and only goes outside to do her business. Plus our dog is a little chihuahua mix, so it's more of a yelp than a real bark. I haven't thought that she makes all that much noise, but I'll check with my immediate neighbors to the right and left to get some other opinions. We are at the north end of the orange build on Berkman, 4216. If it is our dog, we'll do whatever we can do keep her quiet. Like I said she is primarily an indoor dog so I don't think it would be hard to minimize her time in our "yard."

Whether that is our dog or not, let me ask you a question: What time of the day would you consider to be the most acceptable for a little bit of dog barking noise? We do have to let our dog out some time, but we could pick and choose the time of day and the duration to be more neighborly.

If you have a chihuahua, it's definitely not your dog we hear. It sounds like a medium-large breed. It's also more towards the north end of the row homes; I wish I could be more specific but I don't want to start randomly accusing certain addresses.

The problem is not the barking during the evening time; it's barking for hours during the evening. I promise I neither hate dogs nor underestimate the need for them to be outside to do their business, but barking / howling that goes on for more than an hour is a bit much to take. You can hear the din over a television.

Thanks, Ross, for responding though. I appreciate that you are concerned enough to do so.

I did end up talking to my neighbors just to make sure our dog wasn't a problem. It's hard to pinpoint without actually walking around and looking in people's yards, a level that I don't think any of us have gotten to yet. :-) But the consensus guess was that we hear a decent amount of medium-sized dog barking also, but to us it sounds more like it's coming from one of the yards across the alley. I personally don't hear anything myself because I am deaf as a post. :-)
