While most complaints on this board refer to dogs, cat owners note that loose cats are subject to Mueller Covenants:
"No animal will be allowed to run at large, and all animals will be kept within enclosed areas which must be clean, sanitary, and reasonably free of refuse, insects, and waste at all times. All pet waste will be removed and appropriately disposed of by the Owner of the pet. All pets must be registered, licensed and
inoculated as required by law."

I agree - cata and dogs are alot of responsibility. Cats must not be allowed outside to roam at will. There have been studies done that show that cats that are not exclusively indoor cats live about half as long. There is a misconception that cats can take care of themselves outside. Untrue - outside cats get many more infections from cat fights - diseases - become prey of other wild animals and dogs - get hit by cars and breed contributing to an ever increasing homeless pet population.

If you are going to be a pet owner, please be a responsible pet owner and take care of your pet like you would any other family member.

I totally agree with you lkwinchester. I really hate reading about all the lost cats and dogs because people did not put collars/tags on them, keep them inside when fireworks are going on, make sure the animals are inside the house at night, etc.

I feel most of the lost dog/cat situations could be prevented. I'm just not sure how to solve this problem because many people think they are being mean to their animals if they don't let them roam outside. So it's a differing point of view. I imagine it's based on what your parents taught you. And that's a tough thing to change (like political and religious views). :-)

Personally I feel I am a very responsible cat owner. I had two indoor/outdoor cats when I moved in at Mueller but one died in December of old age at the ripe old age of 17 1/2. The other is 15 now and continues to spend time indoors and outdoors. Since my cats have been indoor/outdoor since birth I think it's highly unlikely they would be happy becoming indoor cats only in their golden years.

Perhaps I would make a different decision with a new kitten but I don't know - I'm not convinced that the quantity of life a cat gets as an indoor cat trumps the quality of life they have being able to be outside. I know how I would feel if I was told I could never go out - makes me think of that old John Travolta movie The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. of course I am not a cat...and I often wish I could ask my cats their thoughts.

Hi. I know this is not your cat but I'm hoping someone will claim/pick up the orange tabby that I have on my front porch. He showed up tonight around 9:00 PM. I also live on Zach Scott. He's extremely friendly, young male - not declawed. Looks to be in good health and well fed. Hopped right up on my lap and started purring. Desperately wanted to make his way inside my house. Hope to find his family.

I saw an orange tabby today by the
Greater Texas Federal Credit Union
down on Airport. Looked a little skinny.

No idea if it's the missing cat but thought I would put this on the board.

That little guy lives there. He stays out late but he goes home every night when they whistle for him. He answers to Zeva, Mr. Z, or just Z. You're right, he's super friendly and so were his people when I met them.

Hey - appreciate the love for Mr. Ziva. I didn't realize he was such a celebrity. Well, Mr.Ziva is a beloved member of my family (by family I mean me and him). I love him dearly and thought I would post a quick note in response to some of the other commentary.

A little background, Mr.Ziva adopted me about four years ago during one of the ice storms. When he found me, he was pretty beat up. He was stray. He had fleas, worms, wounds, etc. He was emaciated, cold and was terrified of plastic bags (I think he may have been put into one as a kitten because this terror continues to this day). I took him to the vet and got him treatment and shots. I have read the statistics too. I spoke with the vet and tried to come up with a plan to "convert" him to being a indoor cat. I tried for a month not letting him out, but after watching him cry and scratch at the door for the three weeks solid (I myself suffered three weeks of total sleep deprivation due to his crying), I just couldn't follow through with it any longer. While I, more than anyone, hope that my Z lives a LONG life...I also want him to have a happy life. So, instead I developed plan B - microchip and pet insurance...

Obviously, if I get another cat, I would absolutely keep them indoors, but as for Z, he has suffered enough. For anyone who knows him, he is a major people person. He loves meeting people and having his tummy rubbed. He always comes home, but I can't make him be someone he isn't - he after all - he adopted me.

We live at 2052 Zach Scott. Please feel free to stop by and chat with me if there is any issue with my precious sweetie. Oh, and for my awesome neighbors across the street - HE LOVES YOU GUYS!!

Great! I know how it is to have cats that just won't stay inside. I have no doubt that Mr. Zeva has a great life and that he is well taken care of. Now that I know his story, I'll feel a lot better about having him over for some pets. Thanks for letting us know and it's good to know he's microchipped. All of my pets are and I wish more people would do it. I also understand a lot of cats just won't wear collars but if he doesn't mind it, it may be a good idea to have one on him just so people know what's up.
Again, thanks!
