Skeptic does not equal conspiracy theorist.
by paulsjv on July 27th, 2009

"I know, we have no idea what they have at area 54. And who knows what they have kept secret? And so it goes.... "

It's area 51. ;) Speaking of area 51, I just recently found a cool link between a History Channel show and Bob Lazar. He says he used to work at area 51. I have no idea if it's true or not but it would make an AWESOME book. So if you know of anyone that would be interested in writing I would love to talk to them about this idea and pursue it. :)

"It seems like there are some skeptical people about our skeptical group we are creating here. Being skeptical does not mean that you are a conspiracy theorist, in fact, it requires that you are not as conspiracy theorists will dismiss any new evidence that disagrees with their claim as part of the conspiracy. I am a skeptic in the sense that extraordinary claims require extraoridinary evidence. For me, this covers a lot of ground from religion to alternative medicine, but does not mean I believe in something just because it goes against the grain."

Well said!!

Edit: Quoting like this [ quote]quoted text
text [ quote]quoted text
doesn't seem to work correctly. The system seems to inturpet it as [ quote]quoted text text quoted text
. Hence the use of "".

Skeptics' thread
by schroed on August 3rd, 2009

I am skeptical that a group of skeptics can cohere. I am, of course, open to new evidence. But it's not a good sign that you can't even keep your own skeptics' thread from devolving into a 9-11 conspiracy joke.

There's no need for a conspiracy about 9-11: the accepted truth about what happened is bad enough. The president failed to protect the country from a known threat. Then the situation was taken advantage of to pass new laws taking away much of our civil liberties (or to bypass the law entirely). The negligent president is gone now, but last I checked we haven't gotten all our liberties back. There is plenty of work left to be done.

Again, at risk of being called a censor, I will point out that there are thousands of sites on the internet where you can discuss BS like the 9-11 conspiracy to your heart's content. At almost every one of those sites, the people you piss off will not be your neighbors.

I'm absolutely begging you not to post verbatim the contents of another website... it is deeply richly annoying. You include the link and the verbatim quotes. It boils my blood.

what's the reasoning? -- you are afraid that people won't have internet access? no its passively aggressively attempting to force people to read this most incredible example of crap.

The irony of this posts contents surely doesn't escape you -- considering my earlier post and the subsequent posts.

It cheers my heart that a confessed skeptic "Noelfil" stands up and slaps hard. I cheer you on.

Nuff Said.

Ezra.

Again, I am sorry if I" pissed you off" Schroed. In no way did I want to "piss you off", or any other of my neighbors ( who are all great) with my comments.
...

I would like to ask you though, just which of your constitutional rights have you personally lost since 9-11?

...
Does it have something to do with telling people what they can say/discuss/write, in open internet forums?

Noelfil, you were not the target of my comment. In fact I agreed with much of what you said in your "If we were taliking..." post. Sorry if you felt caught in the crossfire.

Since you asked, what I have personally lost, for starters, is the expectation of being free from unreasonable search and seizures, and the expectation of privacy in communications. No one has to actually search my house while I'm away, tap my phones, or read my email for this to register as a loss to me. Furthermore, while not technically a right, I also lost the peace of mind of knowing that my tax dollars were not funding an illegal war of aggression. Perhaps these are small things to you, but not so to me.

Finally, the freedom of speech that allows you to post whatever you want here also guarantees me and others the right to suggest that you take discussions that are not relevant to muellercommunity somewhere else. There's a fine line between consensual political discussions among neighbors and using this forum as a political soapbox to beat people over the head with your ideas. For every person like myself (or the deeply, richly annoyed Ezra) who responds to the latter type of posts, there are many more quietly seething, or perhaps hoping that if you ignore them they will stop posting this garbage.

You seem angry, Noelfil.
(And ... can't anyone [admins, I'm looking at you] put this thread out of it's misery. Maybe the whole thing could be cut and paste into a Skeptic's Group or something? There, Noelfil can slander me and my parents without reservation.)
