Do cats also hear--and get upset by--the high-pitch noise-emitters?

Hope not, but I can't think of any other solutions when speaking to the neighbor doesn't stop the problem.

Years ago I resorted to the Ultra Bark Free (or something like that). Yes, ALL of G-d's creatures are bothered by the high pitched noises. Birds, cats, dogs, humans who foolishly push the test button while aiming at their own faces. But I'll tell you this--it worked for us in about 10 minutes of judicious use.

I couldn't stand the thought that it would go off all the time due to construction noise, cars backfiring etc. so I never actually left it on. I just walked outside with it whenever I heard the dog barking, pointed right at the dog's yard and tested. It only took two tries and that dog did not bark much ever again. The rare occasions it started barking it would stop upon hearing our screen door shut!

Good luck.

Thanks, Catherine. That sounds like a good solution.
I agree that I wouldn't want to leave it on all the time. Just use it when needed and hope it would train the dog. It's too bad that one has to resort to this kind of thing but that's the way it goes, I suppose.

I should say that I do have neighbors that are very considerate and bring their dogs in when they start barking so it is doesn't become an issue. I am very grateful for them! :-)

Hey -

We live on Pinckney (4004) - if our dogs are ever bothering anyone, please let us know. We try to limit their barking, but if we aren't doing an adequate job, I want someone to tell us.

While you may take it upon yourself to attempt to control a neighbors dogs please note that we already pay:
1- a POA to enforce the covenant restriction against noisy animals
2- the City of Austin to enforce the ordinance against same

My dog woke me up this morning at 4:30 barking. She was barking through our closed windows at a cat who was running by wearing a jingling collar. The cat was unattended.

Please speak to your neighbors before calling some other enforcing body. I want to know if and when my animals are bothering my neighbors.

Also, Tuesday morning early I went outside to get the paper and discovered our cat, who wears a bell, had been forgotten outside on the porch overnight. I have never seen her leave our yard, but a dog would frighten her I am sure. She goes out maybe a couple of times a week and has never been out overnight in the 17 months we have lived here.
